Surely a relegation clause means that Hammond would have the right to walk away from Colchester on a free transfer at the end of the season if they get relegated.

If memory serves, Frutos and Carole had them when we signed them.

There is NO way they would agree to that. They're not going to chuck away £300k on a player and let him leave 5 months later for nothing [as they ARE very likely to go down].

More likely it means that in the event of relegation, Hammond can request a transfer without losing the 'loyalty' money due to him in such a transaction.

Kuffour, both wingers, and the black guy in central midfield were all really good at Withdean. Having thought about it though, apart from Kuffour, aren't they all on loan?

Gradel and the other black guy are on loan, can't remember who the other winger was, could have Henry who was on loan from Reading but has gone back now.

My understanding was the clause would allow him to talk to any higher division club that offers a set amount, they certainly won't let him walk for free.

Personally I'd be amazed if the offer is over the 200k they offered at the start of the month, surely a buyers market given his contract status? I genuinely think it's 200k or nothing in the summer so hope all can be ironed out today,

it would be a get out clause that if a club offered a set amount, then he could go
