Trains to the AMEX

I think a fair amount of the supposed problems with using the trains are caused by people having stupidly unrealistic expectations as to how quickly they will be able to get away, particularly after evening games.

There are a lot of people trying to use the service in both directions, it's going to take time (as is the case with any such event at any stadium/arena in the world) and your need to get home is no greater than anyone else's. Get used to it or make alternative arrangements and stop expecting the club/Southern Trains/whoever else to wipe your arse for you the whole time.

I take your point but the train service from Falmer after the matches has been far poorer than I was expecting ( maybe I was expecting too much?). Friday might be an exception but from where I was queing the first train I saw going to Brighton was a 3 carriage train at 22.07, they were then expecting an 8 carriage train around 22.17 which again ended up being just 3 carriages and arrived closer to 22.30. If there were more carriages things would be so much better. On a Saturday they seem to have trains with more carriages.

a problem lies in the fact that many are getting the train 'just for the fun of it' because its a traditional way to travel to the match, part of the atmosphere, mingle with the away fans etc. I was one of those for the first couple of matches, i've now decided it's an excercise in futility, those that can really should get the bus or walk etc cause it ain't gonna get any better

Pah! I paid £30 x 3 for ours I will not pay £60 x 3 for this scam, next season, unless something is done I will join the 100's who travel from Lewes to Falmer and back for free

Ok ok, maybe not an increase in that size but if they had to rise it for more buses that would be worth iyt, it might only be 10p more.

Anyway, seriously we need shuttle buses from the town Centre to the Amex. I can't believe there aren't loads of these already. Thats why the train is over subscribed

This. How hard can it be to have a load of buses sitting at the bus stop by Falmer station waiting to take people back to Brighton?

I agree with you Captain, I made this point on the other thread.

What about diverting the 24s, 26s, 46s, 49s and 49As up to Falmer station on match days?

Thanks guys, you need about 10 more shuttle buses or so (cant be too hard to get) going from St.Peters or the Steine.
Easy to do, get back to Brighton by Train or Bus and the Problems at Falmer station will reduce. Easy.

Everywhere
I walk there and back from London road, nice leisurely walk and can be interspersed with a couple of pints en route. I think quite a few people walk now but come jan-feb when its howling and gale and freezing cold I can see even more pressure being put on the train services.

There are four services 23, 25, 28 and 29.

Ok thanks, thought there was only 1.

However these are normal bus services. On a Saturday they are packed with people not going to football and are not direct. They don't help take the pressure off the trains. Direct shuttle service, like the P R and S that we already have going straight from the AMEX to The town Centre.

i can't imagine many people are on the 25 going away from town at half 2 or whatever on a saturday..........most of the students aren't up yet for a start, and the burden of lewes road is shared with other buses

plus it's pretty much as direct as the train........just takes longer (although when you factor in the queueing time for the train, maybe not)

Friday's experience was hardly typical becasue of the failure, and subsequent closure, of Balcombe Tunnel. Having said that, it took three and a half hours and three trains and a bus to get from Charing Cross to falmer, and I only just missed kick off.

In my experience trains have been fine. Could pick an argument with the queing system at Brighton station but still gets me to the game in time to see us concede the first goal.
