Trains on Monday- waaaaah! [Update: full match day service]

Booked the Seagull Travel bus from Burgess Hill. Not used them before, usually grin and bare it with the trains, but there were noticeable cancellations just travelling up to London this morning from Haywards Heath, so I don't fancy my chances from Falmer the way things are. Are the coaches any good?

Which one?

I didn't get where I am today by not using my free travel on a football ticket. I will start drinking early to get there early. I will aim to leave as in normal circumstances. This involves being asked to leave by the stewards as all bars are shut. If the train looks dodgy I will go into 5k mode and run down to Bolney Road, Moulescombe and stagger onto the 11:07 49 bus to Portslade Station (West Hove, actually). Home at 11:50.
If any problems with full buses getting to the ground I may use the 49 and walk option.

Should be no problem with hydration and carbs. If I didn't have little one with me then an early knock off and a bus / cab / walk pub crawl would have been in order. However, he's louder and more positive than me so he definitely needs to come!

There are not any extra trains on a midweek match, so a normal match day service=a normal timetabled service

Exactly. The normal timetable on a weekday whilst not great is still sufficient to clear Brighton station between 6.30 and 7.15. The SASTA were predicting tonight's chaos as early as last week suggests that they know already that their inadequate staffing levels will be sufficent to run a normal timetable. The company clearly cannot be arsed to make any effort to try and get staff for what will be a very busy night. It is a disgrace, disappointed to see the Argus blaming the RMT and quoting Peter Bottomley slagging off the workers today, when we all know who is really at fault.

I'm not leaving it to chance and have taken a half day so I can get back in plenty of time.

Brighton
It's been known for weeks that Brighton might be in the play-offs.
I think it's fair to say that I, along with 1000's of others, had tonight down as a play-off date (always in the hope we would be watching Boro on TV). Is 9 days since our destiny was confirmed too short a period to organise a few more trains?

You can organise as many trains as you want but there's no staff to run them.

Is there a guarantee they will have the staff to run the trains though?

What have those posted times got to do with work between Lewes and Eastbourne ?

As has been stated, this is an additional game and is outside of the contracted agreement. there is absolutely no obligation for them to run a normal match day service.

I don’t know the exact clauses of the contract but ask the nearly 30,000 people who are expected later what they think about the legal semantics of it and my guess is they won’t be particularly concerned about Southern's "obligations" for "additional" games, which have happened for three out of the last four seasons - quite a regular occurance I'd say. You know sometimes in life we're asked to do something a little bit extra at no personal advantage to ourselves. And the vast majority of us do this because we can see it’s the right thing to do, to help out a bit. As I said, Southern have had enough time to organise a proper service tonight and in my view should try and be a bit more flexible in the circumstances and help get people home. But apparently that's too much to ask for.
