If u can get to Gatwick then u could try national express to Brighton. With traffic it will take longer than published but u could jump on a bus in the Preston park area rather than go into town or book a cab? Book tickets online if u can to save a lot of hassle at Gatwick!

I wouldn't count on that - Southern website has now 'upgraded' the extension to journey times from 1 hour to 'at least 2 hours'.

There will be people in London who don't make this. I may be one of them.

This is the problem with railways - one problem and the whole network grinds to a halt. I wonder how much longer they're going to argue that there is no business case for re-opening the Lewes-Uckfield line? Given the rise in rail journeys, the rise in population and the fact they admit to raising ticket prices to limit demand it's an argument that looks weaker and weaker every year.

But the demand isn't there from Lewes to London. I often pick up a London Bridge train from Eastbourne in the morning at East Boredom and its often half empty. The same with the return train. And also the time for a Brighton - Lewes - Uckfield - London train was only about 20 mins quicker than Brighton - Littlehampton - London.

All that money to save 20 mins once every 3 years. Also you got a link to where the gov admits that they are raising ticket prices to limit demand?

Can't be arsed to re-read all this so apologies if duplicated info, but I've just wandered past Burgess Hill station and it appears that roughly 2 out of 3 southbound services are cancelled, so don't assume that because you're boarding south of Haywards Heath you won't have a problem.

Football Park & Rides
If you have no option other than to travel by car, to take advantage of the club-subsidised Football Park & Ride scheme you will need a book of club travel vouchers.

There are Football Park & Ride sites for your use situated at:
• Mill Road, off A23/A27

• Mithras House and Cockroft House, Lewes Road

• Brighton Racecourse

Please note the Mill Road site can only be accessed from the A23/A27 turn-off at Patcham and by driving west up Mill Road. You will not be allowed to enter Mill Road from the Hove turn-off from the A27.

At all sites, stewards will show you where to park.

Disabled drivers will be directed to spaces next to the Park & Ride bus pick-up points.

The Football Park & Ride buses are exclusively for the use of match goers. When you board the bus have the first part of your travel voucher for inspection. For your return journey, keep hold of the second portion of the travel voucher.

After the match you should go to the pick-up points in the stadium bus and coach park and the buses will then take you back to your car.

The Park & Ride buses will run from 12 noon on a Saturday and 5.30pm for evening matches, and run for 90 minutes after each match.

Please note all cars must be removed from the Mill Road car park no later than two hours after the match.

But reopening Lewes to Uckfield is not just an alternative London to Brighton line (although that's badly needed - engineering work means it's more like every six weeks than every three years). It's Brighton to Uckfield, Crowborough to Lewes, maybe eventually Brighton to Tunbridge Wells again. More flexibility.

But reopening Lewes to Uckfield is not just an alternative London to Brighton line (although that's badly needed - engineering work means it's more like every six weeks than every three years). It's Brighton to Uckfield, Crowborough to Lewes, maybe eventually Brighton to Tunbridge Wells again. More flexibility.

Maybe every 6 weeks in the winter but not in the summer when its very rare, and even in the winter its normally on a sunday when demand is very low. As for the extra routes all the studies have shown that they wouldn't be economically viable, in fact not even nearly economically viable.
