I presume that platform 6 is not directly accessible from the gate where the queue is and it would have been problematic to direct people from the front of the queue round to that platform especially if it meant moving barriers. If that was the case it still beggars the question as to why the train was departing from that platform and not the end ones?
Maybe @jackalbion could help.
That does indeed become a problem, but its not impossible to do, they have done it for multiple games before, it shouldn't have been an obstacle.

Well the railways had been privatised by then, so we did know what the future would hold (all costs cut to drive profits). The point I was making was that the whole 'travel by train' argument was glossed over, people just talked about 'getting to Falmer', the differences between weekend and midweek train services were hardly mentioned. (They were occasionally by rail insiders - who were told to sush as we needed to put out a united front. There will be no problems). And of course as you say even with the privatised trains to a large extent that's true, but the current weekday shitshow is the sound of chickens coming home to roost.
It's not a shitshow every game though is it? There were extenuating circumstances on Wednesday beyond the club's control, it's hardly the chickens coming home to roost. At weekends it's mostly pretty good, midweek it is more of a pain but rarely the bad situation that those attending the Liverpool game had to endure.

If there is an accident on the A27 are the club responsible for that too?

It’s true that sometimes it’s ok but I guess it’s the bad ones you remember. Thinking back over the past few years there does seem to have been quite a number of transport post-mortems after certain games.

It still baffles me that the club doesn’t see those chaotic pictures posted earlier, and accept how critical the problem can be. I’m presuming that Mr Barber is putting all his chips on the new fanzone as the solution ie that a large number of people will stay around post-game, taking pressure off the trains. And I think that will help for afternoon matches but I can’t see a lot of people hanging round at 10pm.

Some corrections: I didn't say it was a shitshow every game I specifically said weekday matches. I also said that 'to a large extent' the system worked. And at no stage did I say the club was responsible. My sole point is that 'it is what it is' and the potential for these problems were glossed over during the planning process.

And if there is an accident on the A27 and assuming you can't find an alternative route at least you're sitting comfortably and are safe, warm and dry. (Although I don't think that's really relevant).

If a thousand people hang around at 10pm it just means you've got a thousand people trying to scramble aboard a three carriage cattle truck at 11pm with ever-diminishing options for onward travel. Good luck with that

Should this parking ban on local roads be changed or did it stupidly get lawfully written into the contractof building the stadium unlike reliable train transport? It might help a bit if some fans can park in Coldean and so on and walk back to cars.

No, as mentioned earlier, there was no parking ban for the first few seasons - so it certainly wasn't part of the contract. However, both Coldean and Moulsecoomb had a referendum on the issue and there was an overwhelming majority for a ban: the council's not going to go back on that

Do you want to allow thousands of football fans to park outside your house and around the local streets every other weekend? Yes or no.
Hmm I’m astonished they voted against such an idea 😁.

Trains have improved since the stadium opened , they finally extended the platform and heading to brighton the train couldn’t leave Falmer till the train in front had cleared London road viaduct so they have added extra signalling to make the the sections shorter so they can run more trains .
The trouble is Lewes as platforms 3/4/5 only hold 6 coaches and I can’t see how they could extend the platforms without some silly cost,
I would suggest they run a thameslink 700 12 coach train from brighton filling it right up but then it would take ages to get everyone out of rear 4 coaches at Falmer and even longer getting people to move forward at Lewes to empty the rear 6 coaches , it’s easy after that as we can shunt back over just east of Lewes and return to Falmer and brighton .
But then again brighton thameslink drivers used to sign the route to Haywards heath via Lewes but they took it off us a couple of years ago strangly as it was a get out of jail route in times of trouble .

I think that when they were building the stadium they should have put a dedicated turn back 12 car platform in with a set of points just so they could have ran shuttle trains from brighton to Falmer and back but too late now

Bike storage covers - I might make my second ever email to the club/PBOBE and ask that they also cover the bike rack opposite.
Personally I would like to see them not only cover the ones opposite but replace them from these

Could 12 car trains could use the platform at Falmer for the middle eight cars and at Lewes the middle 6 cars? Would that speed up boarding and alighting?

No it wouldn't to be honest, also you wouldn‘t be able to turn it around really beyond Lewes as you’d block the line in the 8 minutes change end allowance, therefore reducing the frequency.

What is that big empty car park for, the one next to East Stand. There’s the bit at the front where possibly the players and officials park (I once noticed Pedro heading towards it anyway), then above that is quite a big empty space. Every time I glance out of the East Upper Windows I see this massive empty car park and wonder what it’s for.
A big block of student flats is going there!

Don't worry, the club can keep a few bike seats dry and that will sort it
Not quite sure what your issue is here mate.

Chat about trains broadens into general discussion about Amex transport, on a side note one person says it might be worth increasing sheltered bike parking due to increased number of people using it as a method, no one offers any opposition or argument against.
