Indeed. But it’s probably easier to get people to follow that fairly simple philosophy if the streets aren’t already a shit-pit surrounded by overflowing bins. Some seem to take that as a green light.
This is not a Brighton only problem. Here in Worthing litter bins are often over-flowing; empty the bins regularly! People have no excuse then. Also, many bins don't have stubbers on them and a lighted fag butt dropped in the bin albeit not deliberately, and a major conflagration would ensue. I also think all retail outlets should be made to have some kind of receptacle outside.
But back to Brighton and many street bins are those huge receptacles with heavy lids that are difficult to open; maybe they aren't such a great idea either.
We've digressed though. I am a Brightonian, born and bred, and nearly every weekend I can find an excuse to "go home". I do a lot of my shopping in Brighton. I certainly wouldn't be happy to have to pay a "tourist tax"!
