These mountains beggar belief - marked in order of steepness levels 1-4 with one further marking 'hors classifaction' ('unclassifiable') i.e. bloody steep. I believe Ditchling Beacon would be marked as level 1, or a slight incline. Absolute NIGHTMARE in the mountains.

Yep top day, but not a patch on next week, in the Pyrenees.

I was a little surprised about some of the gadients, only 5 to 8%.
Obviously that for 10 miles, 4 times a day, whilst being in the saddle for 5 hours, then having to repeat it all the next day, is fooking hard, but never the less.
Since taking a keener interest in road riding, for this year, I usually ride up 15-20% climbs (then die).
These so called pro's are a bunch of pussies.

BTW Ditchling is a piece of wee-wee cos you get little breaks every couple of hundred yards.

Unbeliveable stage today with lots of abandonments. Unfortunatley our boy Mark Cavendish was among them. It was expected he wouldn't finish. He has been the lantern Rouge for the last couple of days.

Its interesting that Rasmussen is in Yellow now. I still fancy Kloden or Vinikourov to win it though.

Gonna be an interesting stage on Tuesday. Tomorrow will be a welcome rtest day for the riders.

BTW, i have done the beacon without stopping(not on the London to Brighton though I might add).

Even on a rest day they will do 2-3 hours to keep the legs moving. If they do nothing, they'll find on Tuesday they'd have seized up!

Ditchling Beacon is a climb they cruise up in the big ring.

The Tour is wide open this year

Once again Ditchling is easy because it's not a straight climb.
Now The Bostal, on the other hand, (up and over the downs from Steyning to Sompting), that's a challenge.

I think today proves 1 thing, Kloden can't win all the time Vino is riding his bike.

I won a hill climb event there once. I chucked my breakfast up at the top. Nasty climb. Its got that flat bit in the middle, then it really rears up for the final 100-150m
