Blimey, just logged on this morning and it seems everything at the club is being slagged off by everyone left right and centre.
“Everyone? Really? 😳

Posts like these irritate me tbh because they ignore the many posts by those of us who are constantly countering the bed wetting negativity and putting things into perspective yet get largely ignored for our efforts.

NSC also have a large number of members who chose not to contribute a what would be a more balanced view of our progress as a Club and analysis of our football and individual players for fear of being shouted down by the “moaners” which I completely understand.

Don't get upset, I know not everyone but it was a reflection on the large proportion of new threads/posts etc from the bedwetters.

The obsession with all things Premier League has distorted real values in football. Prior to 92/93, there were four divisions, all under one authority and fans generally didn't identify with an ' elite ' group of clubs. Sure there was dominance from some at times but any side that got their act together had a chance of winning the title. There was more respect from fans. You didn't hear comments like...." We should be beating sides like....( insert any of the 14 clubs outside the Big Six )
The creation of the PL was to ensure that a few larger clubs had the best chance of success/european qualification and therefore, the highest income. It worked. It created elitism. It created global support bases for the six dominant clubs we have today. It created an uneven playing field. None of these clubs will be relegated on the pitch. Ever. Two mini leagues within one. 14 other clubs all trying to hang on in there and compete.
Brighton have come a long way, relatively quickly. Less than two decades ago, most of us sat on scaffolding, getting soaking wet, using portacabin toilets and mobile snack vans. We cut our cloth accordingly. We went up and down a few times cos we couldn't even compete financially at Championship level.
Now, we are nearly a billion quid in tv revenue to the good, after 8 seasons in the Prem. Having bought, developed and sold a string of quality players, for a lot of money, in recent seasons, we are trying to replace that quality. The whole cycle takes time. Its not overnight. We are now in a transitional period, where we may go slightly backwards. Not to relegation but not necessarily in the top ten.
The sense of expectation is higher amongst younger fans. These were the ones singing about Europe and the CL, at Fulham and Leicester. These are the fans appearing on pre-match vlogs and predicting 3-0..3-1 etc wins all the time. Its understandable. They weren't around for the crumbling Goldstone, Gillingham or Withdean. Their reality is the money fuelled PL and all its glamour. Most of their friends support one of the Big Six. They are desperate to compete and be able to look the armchair Harrys in the eye and say...." we beat you "
I left about a minute before the end last night. I didn't hear any booing. If there was, I can only assume it was more a collective loud grumble. Booing doesnt achieve anything. Silence is the best medicine.
We just need a reality check. Forget Europe and top six, for the time being. Just get back to basics. Our sole aim is to stay in the PL and ensure we get enough points to do that. If you want a place in the sun, you've got to put up with a few blisters.
Whilst I don't disagree with much of the sentiment about the EPL, the last 30 years of Division One saw 9 different winners and in the first 30 years of the premiership, 7 different winners, ie not too much difference. I would also throw in that the replacement of the European Cup with the champions league had a bigger effect in that it meant finishing in the top 4 was almost as good as winning the league as it opened the door to the millions from champions league football.

As for the 6 dominant clubs, will be interesting to see how that pans out at the end of the season as three of them are struggling a bit (and I'm sure we all welcome that).

I’m not upset, just find it mildly irritating that every so often someone posts an anti-bedwetting rant thinking they are alone on a hill providing the only balanced perspective surrounded by an ocean of haters and detractors when it is actually a small minority of NSC members (and even a smaller proportion of the overall Club membership fortunately) that are posting these bed wetting, fishing threads trying to mobilise antipathy towards our manager and the owners and especially individual players.

Btw, I agree with you of course!

This.

I have ignored the threads of silly billys who have lost sight of what football is(or never had it, I am not sure).

It seems impossible to discuss our teams current short comings without some oaf hyperbolist coming along and demanding someone 'out'.

I will stick to sensible threads and sensible posters, rather than the noisy rabble intend on rowsing.

It’s very obvious to me that Welbeck is sorely missed. Think how many key goals he scored for us earlier in the season, when he was being profiled in the papers and having little features on various media shows. That’s the big difference. A fit Welbeck, with Rutter and/or Pedro in support just behind, and I’m confident we’d have probably another 10 points. People are massively overreacting and ignoring this obvious truth. It really saddens me to see our young coach being rubbished like this, when just a month ago when we were very nearly 2nd in the league, the same people were giving him all the respect he deserves.

And a reminder that Gomez is about to come into the team (I hope) plus we have this big German national coach arriving to support Fabian. Let’s stay rational and proportionate. It’s a blip for sure, and a painful one, but I’m convinced there’ll be a few embarrassed looking people on here over the next few weeks.

After the embarrassingly ill-timed rounds of "Europe again" up at Leicester, this pessimistic pile-on was very predictable.
