Jacob Rees-Mogg referred to an African country as “the people’s republic of jam jar or something”, in a speech to Conservative Party Conference.

The hardline Brexiteer made the remark to a packed crowd at a fringe meeting at the party’s annual gathering in Birmingham.

He was referring to the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, which was the name of Libya under Colonel Gaddafi.

Maybe there is some waste, but the German health care system is streets ahead of the NHS. Doctors surgeries plentiful, more dentists than I can shake a toothpick at, immediate appointments, minimal queues at A&E.......and guess why? Oh, and your care in older age is paid for by the state....not by having to sell your home.

If you don't stick to the script, you get expelled from the party, like these two Tory MEPs. Yes, MEPs voted in by the public, for daring to speak against the leadership over Brexit.

Last week the MEP for South West England and Gibraltar learned she had been expelled from the party, after clashing with the leadership over Brexit.

It was not a shock. Girling, along with fellow MEP Richard Ashworth, voted last October for a European parliament resolution that the UK had not made sufficient progress in Brexit talks and should not start talks on trade with the EU.

There is a lot of waste. Take my mums hearing aid for example,really appreciate the after care but we don't need to be sent batteries, when my mum can easily afford the batteries herself. A few years back my mum got given a walking frame for her bad leg, it was only temporary while her leg got better, they never asked for it back. It's crazy. I agree with both things, cut the waste and pay a bit more.

When I broke my ankle I ended up with 4 crutches as the 1st ones were to short as I'm 6ft 6. When able to walk unaided I tried to give them back but they refused.
Been through this countless times but different depts have different suppliers and what they pay variates extremely. My Brother in law worked for them to, brought in to cut costs at £500 a day yeah stupid money. He was there just under 2yrs saved 6M but was still fighting battles with each head of Dept. Example one unit was paying £6 for rubber gloves another paying £50. He advised they were all going for the lower costed ones as they were just as good in quality. An emergency meeting was called by the heads of Depts and this was thrown out as they all wanted to stick to their own supplier. He got no back up on this at all. Times this by the amount of trusts and its horrendous

Agree with that but most of our care homes are privatised. Mind you not many Germans own there homes do they, they rent. Owning homes is a British thing started in earnest by Maggie which raped social housing that has never recovered.

That's ridiculous isn't it. I know companies need to make a profit, but it feels like some are just taking the government for a ride. It happens all the time. You need to find the right balance.

oh, i know this one. they paid more in and more private insurance.

My friend's husband works in IT within the NHS, and I agree with all of this. It is badly run.

The unfortunate thing is that older posters like me have lived through labour governments and Prime Ministers and know the consequences so do not want our children / grand children etc to suffer the same fate. Their ideals all look rosy when they are in opposition and not responsible for anything.

Im quite enjoying 'suffering the fate' of the NHS, the Welfare State and the minimum wage.
