Seems Sunak and co. are hardening their line against the nurses trying to replay Thatcher 1980's greatest hits, ie the miners strike.

Won't be long before the right wing press try and turn us all against them. Will it wash?

Won't be long before the first lurid, sensationalist, headlines: "My dear old mum died because there were no nurses to change her bed-pan" or "Cruel nurses laugh on picket lines while hard-working taxpaying patients die in agony in hospital corridors."

My wife's a nurse, so she and her colleagues are awaiting the hysterical Tory-tabloid headlines and attempts to whip-up hatred.

But I still don't know whether the government specifically told the civil service that they must not get PPE from existing suppliers even if it was available - in which case they're obviously culpable. Or whether they personally took over the system of ordering and refused to let any civil servants have a go at it - in which case they're obviously culpable. Or whether they created a brand new system in which they deliberately excluded anyone with any knowledge of the system and ensured none of them were able to ask - in which case they're obviously culpable. Or whether the civil service was to some extent at fault.

I don't believe in this scenario whereby the minister was solely responsible for procurement and none of the 6,500 NHS England staff, and none of the 3,000 Department of Health staff, had any access to any of the ordering system. There must have been incompetence by some of them as well as by the minister.

If, as you all suggest, the minister said that he would do it all himself and his staff could take the time off, then there must be memos about it. But until I see more than rumours on a stridently anti-Tory message board, I won't believe that Hancock and only Hancock was able to order PPE.

I admire your indefatigability and endless patience, never lowering yourself to return the insults/snide comments but I do wonder why you bother posting about political issues on the wokiest of wokey football message boards.

I’m sure he’d see it as educating rather than learning. This is because people see things differently sometimes

This government have been beyond defence for a very long time.

If you’re still on the fence at this stage, thinking “maybe this incarnation of the Conservative Party would be the best choice to run the country for another five years.” then there is nothing on this earth that would make you vote for another party, you’re lost to all sense and prudence.

P.s. Woke is just a slang word for aware, the alternative being oblivious/unaware.

Can you please point to the last post where someone was 'defending the government' or stated the Tories would be the best choice to run the country for another five years?

Unfortunately, such is the level of tribalism on here that anyone who doesn't continually slag off the government in all circumstances and agree with every echo chamber tweet or guardian article is immediately misrepresented as supporting the government.

Many people have a less charitable interpretation of what woke means ...

Certainly. It was the post that you quoted in your post that I responded to.

The gist of it (paraphrasing in conjunction with the poster’s previous post) was effectively, “the Conservatives aren’t responsible for setting up VIP lanes that bypassed all established procurement procedures, a rogue Civil Servant could have done it unprompted then ran away.”

I’m intrigued as to what your ‘alternative’ definition of woke could be, given its prominence in your prior post. I’m confident in my definition, so I’m interested to hear what you think it means.

So please, take the opportunity to praise the government for what they have achieved.
Let’s have some positives.

That's gold plated bollocks though. There are a number of prominent posters on here who are natural Conservative voters, some of whom are my friends.

I have other Albion friends who are even members of the party.

They all know that the Conservative party has left them and been taken over by a nasty neo-liberal fringe that has little to do with the party that is been in power for the vast majority of my life.

This current administration is clearly, very clearly the worst administration in my lifetime. They aren't clearing up after a previous Government they are clearing up after themselves continually, often daily.

The only "tribalism" left is right versus wrong, the ethical versus the unethical, the legal versus the illegal.

Elections in this country are actually decided by very few people outside of any "tribe" due to our system. Unless a meteorite hits the country and the polls are correct-ish, those people will kick the Tories out at the election on an "anything but" basis. Not sure they currently care what replaces them.

If you had any integrity you’d make your points and back them up if challenged. Instead you immediately go on the attack or play the victim. Which is why it’s obvious you are nothing more than a troll.
