Yep.

The jocks now have the power to **** up labour by voting SNP, hugely increasing the chances of the tories winning power, and forever condemning themselves to not only no independence, but also no concessions, no free deep fried mars bars, etc.

The Jocks seem to think that they can gain independence with 45 seats bullying a parliament of 650 seats.

Trust the jocks to not know what is in their best interest. They can vote SNP till the cows come home and this will simply entrench the national tory hegemony.

This is a very patronising post and demonstrates the sort of English arrogance the Scottish people are sick of, and rightly so.

Labour should be fully focused on regaining red wall seats, the cities and working with the SNP and Lib Dems to be the largest party in a coalition, and from that platform of government to begin to broaden their appeal. The real enemy is not the SNP, it is the Tory party.

I have a lot of sympathy for Scots wanting independence. They want to be part of the EU, they are a left of centre, proud nation that have been belittled by succesive Tory governments for decades.

I agree. Imagine being tethered to England right now. And having our head-case future PM saying she willingly ignores Sturgeon.

If the Tory’s carry on with this attitude, expect trouble on the borders.

I don't really blame the tory members for this one - they have been presented with a choice between 2 very poor candidates.

However, they now have just 1 job : to spare the country from the incredibly damaging Truss.

I think you misunderstand. I am bloody annoyed the Scottish independent contingent have created and elected a nationalist party, knowing full well this will keep the tories in power forever. The SNP might have offered Labour a coalition, but this would be in return for independence, and this will never happen. Labour could never work with the SNP - certainly not in a way that would create stable government. The SNP want independence. The permanent loss of 30 plus Labour seats in Scotland is entirely due to the SNP and focusing on the 'red wall' won't change that.

If I thought Faversham was egregiously hard done by, and wanted to create some sort of independent Rotherweird (look it up - great book), I would engage in massive local civil disobedience. I would not form a FNP party and hope the presence of one MP in Westminster would lead to change.

The SNP can never win. They cannot see that their existence creates a tory hegemony. Their voters are the epitome of stupidity according to Einstein's criteria (the keep voting for the same thing, 'winning' each time to absolutely no effect, and then doing it all again, expecting a different outcome).

By 'the jocks' I mean the idiots who keep voting for this status quo. Although it's more Nazareth than Status Quo.

If that's patronizing then just wait till I start on working class tories :lolol:

I have nothing but contempt for turkeys who vote for Christmas.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
It will be a hung parliament but what will happen is that there will be a Labour/Lib Dem coalition that will leave SNP out in the cold. The Lib Dems will insist on rejoining the single market as part of the deal, Labour will 'reluctantly' agree, we will instantly resolve the unimplementable NIP, and the 'act of self harm' British import controls that we still can't put in place, save what's left of the British export industry, fishing, farming etc and start to make a significant dent in both the raging inflation and plummeting GDP

It will be the start of the long road back to some sort of sanity in Government, but we'll still be paying for the last 3 years (and probably next 2) for decades to come :shootself
Probably not.

1. Concerned?
2. Alleging a conspiracy?

I'm a LP member and have not been urged to work together with the spaghetti weavers.

But you're most welcome to clutch at straws.

Why would I be concerned.

Given that the last election a decent number of seats went to the Tories because Labour and Lib Dems split the vote it would be pretty dumb to repeat the mistake.

There is still talk of trying to shoehorn Johnson back in. Yes, this is really a Tory peer.

The last election was always about Brexit. Labour and LibDems wanted a second vote to avoid a No Deal.

Do you not see that the Scots have rejected the two main parties who - they feel - have done nothing for them for decades. Scotland has been consistently electing SNP candidates for a decade, so this is not a flash in the pan. Who can blame them for voting for a party that puts Scotland first and not last?

As for SNP have no chance of independence, the polls would indicate that IndyRef2 would be a lot closer than 2014.

I think the whole issue highlights how FPTP can disenfranchise not just individuals but also a whole country. The political system is also not working for Northern Ireland either.

As for the break-up of the UK, we've already lost it. There is no coherent country of the UK, it is a myth. The Tory government is not a 'one nation' government at all, as we are seeing in the leadership race.. There's nothing being offered to the regions, just a focus on tax cuts for the rich and tax breaks for big business.

Tory MP on Any Questions, Mark Spencer trying to spin Rishsi’s redirecting of funds from poor areas to wealthy Tory areas by saying “That is not what he said at all, AT ALL. He said he was putting funds into poor rural areas, and WELL YOU KNOW IT”.

Loud bluster and bluff. It’s what the Tory’s specialise in.

It's brazen, more than bluster and bluff. It is downright hypocrisy. This is the MP for Hastings pretending to be shocked and appalled. She voted against the restrictions put by the Lords amendment.
The EU even took Britain to court in 2012 for lack of treatment in waste water. We are living in a sewer on the south coast.

When I see the sea swimmers in Shoreham harbour every morning, I think “If only you knew what you were splashing around in”.

It’s going to take a long time to repair the damage the Tory’s have done to this country, literally on a molecular level.

I think your analysis is needlessly apocalyptic. Here is the 1997 result: 1997.PNG

The SNP is yellow. Most of Scotland was labour and liberal. The SNP phenomenon has grown steadily in the last 25 years, certainly, but a decade is a short time in politics. That last decade has seen unprecedented shitness in England, with extremely poor tory governments, a Brexit that Scotland opposed, and a very weak labour party for 8 of the 10 years.

Add to that a Scottish view that their birthright (North Sea Oil) was no longer giving the bounty that once transformed some Scottish cities, yes, a perfect storm. But not irreversible.

Despite everything the last time they had an independence election 'remain' won.

I have not given up on the jocks, and eventually the value of the UK may become apparent again. I don't see the break up of the UK as inevitable.

The tories have always been a party of tax cuts for the rich. No change there.

As for not blaming them for voting for a party that puts the locals first, that's the core basis for all nationalist parties. I don't like them. Britain First (etc.). And I suspect half of all jocks dislike them too.

Only time will tell. Perhaps you are right in that once Brenda has popped her tiara, Charlie may well favour independence for Scotland, in a very real sense. He's that daft. In which case if the tories see it to be to their advantage to let the jocks commit political suicide, they will.

So maybe your vision of independence is correct after all. We just need to make sure labour wins the next general election.....
