A new centre right climate party has been launched to take on climate-denying Conservative MPs, especially those in marginal seats, such as Steve Baker and Craig McKinlay:

Good - the climate crisis is too often labelled as a "leftist" agenda and therefore gets disregarded by many on the right. In reality it needs a range of solutions and buy-in across the political spectrum.

Unfortunately I doubt this party will have much impact.

Rishi Sunak has said he would back the creation of new grammar schools if he becomes prime minister, as he clashed with Liz Truss at a Conservative party hustings.

The former chancellor, who attended one of the UK’s most expensive public schools, used his opening speech at the debate in Leeds to say he would create “a Britain where the birthright of every child is a world class education”.

Asked by presenter Nick Ferrari to give a yes/no answer to the question of whether he would bring back grammar schools, he said, “yes”.

He won't win so his plans are irrelevant. To lose, now, Truss needs to be caught in flagrante delicto with Mick Lynch. And even then she'd probably be OK if she claimed she has successfully achieved a climax to the industrial dispute.

Ben Wallace, the defence secretary, has endorsed Liz Truss to be the next Conservative leader and prime minister, giving her campaign a major boost after the candidates’ hustings in Leeds on Thursday night.

In the Times, Wallace said Rishi Sunak was a “capable cabinet minister” who “could do the job of prime minister”, but Truss was “the only candidate who has both the breadth and depth of experience” to handle problems such as the Ukraine war, pandemic and inflation.

“From day one the new prime minister needs to know their way around the international community as well as the Treasury. Only Liz can do that.”

Would be far better for the Tories if Farage came back and split up the racist vote.

Pro action on climate change voters can go to the Lib Dems

Farage is mission complete, Brexit is done. No reason to come back unless someone is trying to reserve it.

Farage won't be happy until spaghetti hoops are banned from school meals across the land

Pressure building on Sunak to step aside - he’s not going to win

Any job in cabinet will be demotion if offered, he must be tempted to early another barrel load of cash in the US and return at the end of the decade..

Journalists should start framing statements like this as "Sunak plans to re-introduce secretary moderns and brand most 11-year-old kids as educational failures."

Thanks for the mental image, which may haunt me all day. She would definitely increase her lead if she was on top.

If he fails to get the leadership I fully expect him to throw the towel in completely, Truss won't give him a job in Cabinet after the bitterness of the leadership contest. He will never get another shot at PM because post-Truss ( 18 months or 2 years) there will be better candidates emerging.

What is the point of him sitting as a plain old back bench MP ? He's off back into finance with some easy directorships and a 3 day week.

According to Robert Peston, applause at the hustings for saying Johnson has 14K signatures now.
What the signatures are, is a matter of speculation.

I think a lot of people have signed up with comedy names for a giggle, but that could backfire massively, as it allows Johnson’s supporters to say “we have this many signatures” and I don’t believe in the wonderful world of the Conservative Party he has to submit them to any kind of scrutiny if he has a friendly committee.

Speaking of which, didn’t the 1922 almost completely revamp their committee recently?

The Lib Dems aren't right of centre though, nor are they pushing for climate action as their number one policy. Plus, a significant portion of the right won't touch them due to their stance on Brexit.

What is needed is to convince the Telegraph/Mail/Express readers that climate action needs to be at the forefront of policy. That won't happen if it's the Lib Dems pushing it.

Seems there are people culling the fake names/people.

Even if it gets near 20k real names that does cause the party an issue.

West is BEST
Whichever one loses will look back and realise they have dodged a bullet. Unfortunately, Boris has not only disgraced himself but he has cheapened the office of PM. It’s not just the person in the job that is going to get stick, but the job itself.

I know activitist Marina Purkiss was playing around and there was a spike of around 2k after she shared it and it became clear you just needed to put "0" down if you didn't have your membership handy
