Sadly, I believe you're right, and after all that has happened, and he has done, the biggest issue people have with him is a Xmas f***ing party :(

Toute nation a le gouvernement qu'elle mérite

The vast majority of voter-age people have no interest in politics and pay little attention to the issues; human interest stories however, such as Johnston fathering yet another child or buying fancy wallpaper are considered worthy of debate......

Fair enough, I generalised.
I’m not making a call for anarchy and a world of no politicians. Politicians can, and do, do a lot of good.
But it increasingly feels like there’s an established way politicians handle justified scrutiny - namely doing everything they can to avoid giving the truth in its entirety. Johnson is of course an expert in this.
I would like to see more politicians engage their moral compass and be more straight forward.
That that sounds childishly naive is a sad state of affairs in itself.

 and not naïve.

You see it everywhere, though; some people have integrity and others don't. Some, that don't, make an effort to appear rightous. Others can't be bothered. We seem to have rather a lot of people in the present government who fall into the latter category - venal, and don't care who knows it. It does get increasingly hard to shift them when everyone, honourable or not, see the need to win as the bigger given, and the fear of losing stopping any changes. Especially when the buggers do keep on winning. It can then perpetuate. But it will eat itself.

That's why I'm happy for Starmer to keep his head down, gently replace outgoing lefty mentalists in key positions with more sensible folk, and be ready to step in when the nation finally realises it has been cheated.

So...same as it ever was, but with embelishments and flying buttresses, de jour.

And what a crap point it is, because nobody else matters. What really matters is a government sets the rules and then acts like they're above it all - meanwhile ordinary people were unable to see their dying loved ones.

It is indefensible so I'm not really sure what your thick-as-mince two-liners ever hope to achieve. Your contribution is as welcome and worthwhile as it ever was.

Oh right. So what exactly IS your opinion on the government making up rules that mean people don't get to see dying relatives, whilst at the same time ignoring them for the sake of a few free drinks? Because you haven't actually expressed it.

And yes, I am dismissing other people taking the piss over lockdown measures because that clearly isn't relevant to the discussion.

I don't agree with double standards full stop whether it's the Government or Joe public that's my views and I'm sticking with them but carry on as you are

Completely missing the point. Whatever you call it - party, gathering, post work Christmas celebration - the very people in that room had just spent the last few weeks telling the public they weren't allowed to do exactly that. And far more important things, like seeing your dying relatives.

So the rules said that no cheese was allowed in offices and under no circumstances could anyone bring in a bottle of wine? Must have missed that.

You’ve missed a lot. There is evidence of at least five parties between 27th November and 18th December, all well attended.

What about the 5 other Downing Street/Conservative Party HQ parties ? ???

They are refusing to call them parties, they were 'Gatherings'.

So, lets talk about the Conservative Gathering Gatherings.

I'd give it up chap. This is the classic proverbial game of chess with a pigeon. We all know how that ends.

Maybe go back and ask your ITK friend why they didn't mention the other 4 parties, maybe they missed that as well

No, the rules said no social gatherings between anyone outside of your household, including those you work with and share an office with. Stop being obtuse.

And my point is that isn’t relevant to this thread. This is about the government who implemented the lockdown last Christmas but didn’t abide by it. It’s not a difficult thing to understand.

What's the matter with Das Reich? Had he had a stroke? He's increasing resembling Cartman, so stupid that only he doesn't realise.

I'm absolutely fine H , I must admit to finding the mass hysteria on this thread quite predictable from the usual Boris / Government bashers .

The one key question that no one seems able to answer is why has it taken this long to surface .
