I mostly agree, I do think she has a point of wastage on the amount of training and the cost attached.

NHS was advertising jobs at around 80k for diversity managers, how much equipment could that buy, wouldn’t it be better used towards something else?

It could be used to aid recruitment ,staff retention and wellbeing which are obviously very costly things. And identifying what services need to be supplied to the public.

Oh that's what it does

They have a surplus, but debt still remains higher than before covid.

I don’t believe they had as good of a furlough scheme either?

Do you honestly know that their furlough scheme was not as good ? My wife and obviously her family are from the republic and from what they have told me, which is just one instance I realise !
The part time staff who were working at establishments such as McDonald’s etc who were earning somewhere in the region of €150 a week were given a subsidised income of more than €300 a week during lock down, not bad for students etc who were only working the odd shift, they couldn’t believe their luck getting double money for staying home ! Their benefit system is far more lucrative than ours also and of course if you are on low income / benefits etc, you have free health care by means of their medical cards which exempt medical expenses for these people.

Initially, the scheme will refund employers up to a maximum of €410 per week net per each qualifying employee. Employers should pay no more than the employee’s normal take-home pay.
In April 2020, the scheme will move to a subsidy payment based on 70% of the average take-home pay for each qualifying employee up to a maximum of €410 per week net. Further details are expected on this shortly.
Employers are asked to pay or top up an employee’s pay during the subsidised period to maintain their current level of earnings. While employers are not obliged to make any payment if they are not in a position to do so, they are expected to make their best efforts to maintain as close to 100% of normal income as possible for the subsidised period. If an employer cannot make any contribution, it may rely wholly on the subsidy to pay the employee.

70 percent v 80 percent -

Wastage you say ? I know at least two people and have heard of plenty more who were self employed before and during the imposed lock downs these guys were working for a company in West Sussex which is contracted to carry out repairs on homes run for the elderly, these guys never missed a days work as it was deemed essential work but were still able to claim, quite legally I must add, £5000 grants paid out of the public purse for loss of earnings which were never lost, one of these guys claimed this amount legally twice ? There’s wastage for you…..

Oh that's what it does

Well, what a fantastic job they are doing to justify the wage of 2 nurses.

Or not.

From the Guardian today;

“PM and chancellor ‘completely on top’ of economy despite being on holiday
Good morning

The business secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng, who is backing Liz Truss in the Conservative leadership contest, has admitted that “I don’t know where Boris is” but insisted the prime minister is in “constant contact” with him”.

Bunch of ****wits

As an aside, I found that story because I thought “I’ll pop online and see how the Tory’s are treating us like ***** today”.
Took no time at all to find.
That’s our government. The ones who should be looking after us.

Without knowing the full details and based on what you’ve said, could the loss of earning be due to having to purchase extra gear to work in that environment?

I agree it’s utter wastage, which this country is great at.

which were reportable, taxable income.

government spending is filled of examples of waste, all this argument does is support the case for smaller government.

Households have been warned that the average energy bill could climb to nearly £4,000 a year from January, higher than some previous forecasts.

Auxilione, a small energy consultancy, has predicted that the energy price cap in Great Britain will be lifted to £3,488 per year from October, and then against to £3,994 at the quarterly change in January 2023.

Predictions for January are still uncertain as there are more than three months left until the price is decided.

People will refuse to pay bills long before then. Already starting in October I think.

This is true. Hundreds of millions were paid out to self-employed under the SEISS as there was absolutely no requirement, in the first two tranches, for the trader to have lost any work whatsoever as a result of covid. Like the furlough scheme for the employed, it wasn't thought through properly - if at all.

And of course, there were no safeguards in place to stop the schemes being abused.

I didn't have you down as an anti-capitalist

If capitalism means ordinary people being paid less to subsidise billionaires and 4,000 pound energy bills while big energy companies rake in hundreds of billions, then put me down as anti capitalist

lol
Err no, these were grants freely available to the self employed to ‘safeguard’ their income during the covid lockdowns to which the chancellor and civil servants have already stated that they could be open to abuse but ‘safeguarding’ jobs was their priority and abuse was what they got. Cannot continue as I have a demanding 5 yr old grand daughter who wants me to play ‘schools’ with her will continue after we take her home !
