In the meantime, the females in the Tory party are falling out. I think Liz Truss wouldn't thank Nadine for this endorsement.

I know that it's irrelevant nonsense, but do adult women actually buy jewellery from Claire's Accessories? My daughters dragged us in there relentlessly when they were small, but the moment that they hit their teenage years, they considered the place to be tremendously embarrassing. I can't imagine that women in their forties are shopping there. Given that Truss has said in interviews that her youngest teen daughter shops in New Look and River Island, has she nicked her kid's pre-teen cast offs, or do her daughters shop in River Island for themselves, but buy their mum's birthday presents by recycling Claire's vouchers given to them by older relatives who haven't twigged that they've outgrown the place?

You make a good point - essentially Dorries is throwing shade at both candidates... :tosser:

So much being made of tonight's debate, what really is the point?

At least in the earlier stages when it was down to MP's you could lobby your MP, now what? Go down to the golf club and start shouting?

Given that there are no new policies and whoever wins, it's just more of the same, I'm guessing it's being done for pure Comedy value ?

because some time ago media people decided we must have political debates on TV, first with gneral elections and now leadership elections. probably because thats what they do in America (and its shite there too).

Anger over the Partygate scandal has been reignited after Scotland Yard confirmed that it did not send questionnaires to Boris Johnson before deciding against fining him for attending two Downing Street lockdown gatherings.

Fines were issued to other attenders at the gatherings in 2020, including one at No 10 on 13 November, where the prime minister gave a leaving speech for his departing director of communications, Lee Cain, and another in the Cabinet Office on 17 December.

Downing Street has previously briefed that Johnson did not receive police questionnaires relating to some lockdown events. But the revelation on Monday is thought to be the first time the Metropolitan police has admitted this, under details released as part of a legal challenge.

Our political system is broken.
Apparently the last time a PM fought and won an election then served a full term before then loosing the next election was Ted Heath ! so what we have now is the new normal and one of these two candidates who were both at the top table of Johnson’s failed cabinet will be appointed PM by the 130,000 or so Tory blue rinse brigade, what a dreadful choice
this totally unrepresentative group will be making

Pretty sure it was John Major. Heath didn't serve a full term anyway, he called the election early (two of them in the same year).

The reason this happens is because the Tories soon ditch leaders they think might fail at the ballot box.

Don't know how true that is, but we did say that a promise made by Johnson is worth as much as a used bog roll.

Someone at work got the hump one Friday afternoon and resigned. Came to his senses over the weekend and went to see the boss first thing Monday.

"Sorry, your decision was final" was the response.

(The boss had been fretting over how to get rid of the lazy, whiney, useless, entitled pillock for several years).

Johnson, dear oh dear. What a twerp :lolol:

I think Blair fought and won 3 elections. There is nothing noble about being booted out or resigning after losing a general election as opposed to being booted out or resigning while still PM. I see no difference, in fact. The party elects/selects the leader. And it can do so whenever it likes (unless its own constitution forbids this).

no, you misunderstand the system. being so common to have a leader change mid parliament indicates direct election of a leader is not how it works. we elect representitives, they support a leader. pretty much all western democracies follow this pattern, elect representitives, who elect as leader from among themselves.
