[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

Wow, politics in this country just gets worse and worse. I seem to remember Emily Thornbury as the one who condemned a household and whole town because of a flag they were flying. She fits in perfectly with the new way of conducting politics.

Politics or sexism?

After the last 6 years we're once again getting the PM we deserve, I'm afraid. We handed in our "sensible country" card in June 2016 and now we're basically just being the class clown.

It isn't just the UK. America picked Trump. Italy picked Berlusconi. France picked Macron.

Anyway, I'm surprised more hasn't been made of Johnson's parting words: "Hasta la vista, baby".

If the public elect a Labour Government then they will have looked at the issues and acted accordingly. If they elect a Tory Government then that same public will have been ‘gaslit.’ That’s basically your position and it is one shared by a number of other posters. That’s why there isn’t much point in discussing politics on NSC.

Yep, seems you really have been put off discussing politics on NSC. :lolol:

You mean the Emily Thrornberry who admitted her mistake and offered her resignation?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-30148768

The days when an MP offered to resign over a lack of judgement? Halcyon days....

Nothing to apologise for this time. Politics may well be getting worse but not because someone makes a comment about a picture of the 1922 committee acting like it's still 1922

Macron is far from perfect, but doesn't deserve a place on that list. If they had voted Le Pen and you had listed her I would agree with you.

The other two countries have, as things stand, realised their error and are run by people (again not beyond criticism) who are reagrded by the international community as competent and sensible.

At present we are only a small step up from countries like Brazil and Hungary in the way we are run and the electorate can't entirely escape responsibility for not demanding better

After the last 2.5 years of the actions of Johnson's government, a tweet by Emily Thornberry is 'Wow, politics in this country getting worse and worse'

You're on a wind up aren't you

Could be sexism or racism or her turn or she offered. Who knows. Has Thornbury asked before weaponising it ? Er, no.

Weaponising? Come on, it's worth a wry smile at most, certainly nothing even as lethal as a snigger. No need to get exercised about it!

I mentioned it to Kinky Gerbils.

I'm not bothered about Thornberry but I am bothered about why a woman politician agrees to have a photo done with her 'playing mother'.

It hasn't been weaponised, as I think most women would pick up on that subtlety straight away.

Fair enough. I am no fan of Johnson or Truss but I still feel there are other first world nations out there with peculiar leaders too.

Macron may be OK but he came in from nowhere, like, I dunno, that TV news bloke in his white suit, to become president (!) and appears to have married his mum's hairdresser's wig mannikin.

I'll let you snatch back Italy, but America have replaced the nylon-haired psychopath with a man far too old to handly his own willy, let alone high office.

As for Hungary and Brazil, these have never been sensible countries, and I wouldn't reach out to them when looking for meaningful nations with nutty leaders for comparison. Although I concede your point that our next leader could be one pork market away from hitting the ground, very hard.

Anyway, apologies, I feel a bit argumentative today. No I don't. How very dare you!

Yep. I raised one eyebrow.

Still, it was the 1922 committee.

I mentioned it to Kinky Gerbils.

Do you find it all a bit surreal that, in this new age of communication, you would ever have found yourself offering a response of 'I mentioned it to Kinky Gerbils' ?

You're very selective in the prejudices you pick up on. Almost as if there is prejudice at work.

I will speak up on behalf of Neville's Breakfast. Genuine inquiry is his thing, not dog whistling like NSC's ever-diminishing rabble of gaslighters.
