What's this? Oh just a far right organisation trying to rig the system to get their preferred PM in place.

Weird how nobody talks about this but is horrified by the entryism of the far left into the Labour party some years ago...

This concerns me more about her:

"Hacking of Labour MP's website

In April 2018, The Mail on Sunday obtained a video of an interview that Badenoch did with Core Politics, where she confessed to hacking into the website of a Labour MP in 2008. The MP in question was Harriet Harman, who was then Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. Harman accepted Badenoch's apology, but the matter was reported to Action Fraud, the UK's cyber crime reporting centre.

Tulip Siddiq pregnancy controversy

In 2019, Badenoch received press attention for comments made regarding pregnant Labour MP Tulip Siddiq, who delayed her scheduled Caesarean section in order to make it to a House of Commons vote on Brexit. Badenoch was criticized for arguing that Siddiq was "making a point" by insisting on attending the vote.

Journalist Nadine White incident

Badenoch published a series of tweets in January 2021 in which she included screenshots of questions sent to her office by HuffPost journalist Nadine White whom she, as a result, accused of "creepy and bizarre behaviour". White subsequently made her Twitter account private, citing the abuse she received. Badenoch's actions were criticised by both the National Union of Journalists and the Council of Europe's Safety of Journalists Platform. She was defended by the prime minister's press secretary who commented that it was all a "misunderstanding". "

She sounds like a complete piece of work. No wonder she was elevated by Johnson.

Not a single Conservative voted against him, yet 10 days ago, 59 of them resigned saying they couldn't work for him. He could now say he has the confidence of Parliament and will stay. I'm not saying he will, but he could.

the VONC was for the government, not the PM personally. that was the whole point of refusing the Labour worded one and bringing this one, the MPs voted to support their Conservative government without directly supporting Johnson.

Yet today, Tobias Elwood has had the whip removed for keeping to a meeting in Moldova, with President Sandu. He was told he should have cancelled it.

Yesterday in the HoC, Johnson was railing about wasting time having a VONC, and the Speaker had to remind him, it was the Tories that tabled it.

Is he the one vote that Penny Mordaunt lost yesterday?

Even more strange, especially when sexual pest groper Pincher still has the whip.

He's certifiable. She ruled that proroguing Parliament was unlawful, but Lady Hale is 77 and now retired.

Yes, he knows how to deliver a speech, but the words within it, are nothing but a word salad.

Well said – with such courage and conviction.

I mean, he's doing SUCH a great job, he's been forced to resign :dunce: :moo:

Another decent Tory has been kicked out of BluKip then.

The Tory party is dying in front of us.

I'm still not 100% that he has resigned. Tory HQ called off last nights tv debate, and MPs are worried about a blue on blue diatribe.

He can now say he's won a VONC in the government.

Ellwood is in Mourdant's camp. Shady as ****.
If he has been de-whipped he won't have a vote. Which in a close contest suggests shenanigans.

He is actively a Single Market fan and for that reason I think he's great.

Indeed. He'll only resign when the new leader is elected. If no new leader is elected....

But I can't see it myself, the backbenchers may have voted for confidence in their party - but they have lost it with Johnson.

Seems he cant vote in the leadership contest, Truss' anti-deep state puppeteers will be pleased...

He says he couldn't vote in the motion as he was abroad. Fair enough, but cant you vote by proxy, or similar, I thought you could?

That's true. You know what I mean though. The very fact that he had to make that speech – whatever the fallout from it – speaks volumes. It also makes the rest of the party look a bit silly if he DOESN'T go. Not that they or he will care one bit. There only in it for themselves and the whole farce will be brushed under the carpet.

On a separate note – and it may have been covered here already, apologies if so –*why is there SO much coverage of the leadership debate. I know it's for the top job and all that, but I don't seem to remember it being such a fuss before. Or maybe it's because I had zero interest before (which is still pretty much the case now, but I'm exposed to it more, so can't avoid it!).

I'd imagine that right was one of the ones Rees Mogg removed to stop people working remotely during the pandemic. He was very keen to force people back to work.

These are the other 12 who didn't vote or abstained. They still have the whip.

My mother-in-law (in her 80s, staunch Tory voter and member) has been VERY critical of Johnson over the past year or so. But she told us last night that she'd prefer him to any of the candidates for leader. She's a very sensible and intelligent woman...but I can't work out whether (a) to be in despair at her desire to have Johnson as leader, or (b) to be highly amused at her disdain for the others! It wouldn't surprise me to hear that her views are pretty common across the party members.

As an aside, It was good to see Jonathan Gullis and Clive Lewis on Politics Live having a proper debate on everything raised then grinning at each other afterwards. Makes a nice change to see a political debate without any vitriol.
