and sadly Angela Rayner isn't anywhere near up to the task of bringing him down.

Well, no-one on the Labour benches can; they don't have a vote. But Johnson's obviously terrified of her. I wish she did more PMQs as she clearly gets under his skin more than Starmer does

Totally agree. I find Starmer very uninspiring, Rayner the one person on the front bench that I feel genuinely connects with the people of this country. I've been very impressed with her in recent months, constantly taking the attack to the government unlike Starmer who concentrates his fire on the membership.

I like her and she's actually pretty smart, the street fighter approach is as good as any when dealing with a self entitled public school boy.

The Tories have an opportunity here, not a problem.

No-one does long knives like the Tories. And it's a perfect time to play 'Dump the Leader'.

Agreed. A lot of people on this thread have been using hyperbolic language about Johnson ever since 2016 (I wonder why). The Tory Party will be a lot more measured and will get rid at a time to suit the long term goal. Could be today for all we know but I don’t see any obvious successors.

I don’t think that Starmer wants Johnson out yet. It would give his successor a good run up to the next election, time to bring in tax cuts, and bribe the electorate again. Johnson has become a joke, and not in that we’re all laughing with, more like the one we’re all laughing at.

The Tories will want Johnson to remain in his position for another year, then resign due to long Covid or some such bollox.

The next election is 2 years away, at least.

Anyway, on to the more important stuff, is PMQs today, bring your own booze?

The Tories made a 'promise' via VoteLeave, that when we left the EU*, VAT would be removed or reduced on energy bills.
Yesterday whilst everyone was looking the other way (parties!) 320 Tory MPs voted against the bill to do this.

*Spain has reduced VAT on their energy bills to help with the coming price rises.

A bit unfair on Starmer who constantly points out the inconsistencies in Johnson's words and reduces him to repeating stock phrases and avoiding the question. It would be very effective in the courtroom but doesn't cut the mustard in the House. Rayner tears into him and he looks far more uncomfortable

Men of the elite absolutely abhor having to answer to women. Or anyone that they have been raised to regard as beneath them.

All 5 questions should be

Did you go to the party

Easy

Johnson will have a get-out clause. He is making a statement before PMQs so his stock answer will be 'It's under investigation so I can't say anything',

I think you are confusing her connection with the membership with a connection to the country. Sounds like a few Labour supporters are determined to make the same mistake they made with Corbyn and so the cycle of failure continues. Ditch Starmer and you will lose the next election.

I read a tweet suggesting that this is the ultimate àrsehole-litmus-test - if you back or protect or excuse Johnson, that’s what you are. It’s not always simple but this time it really is.

I think I'd agree, and reading BLOCK F (someone whose views I respect despite being a died-in-the-wool Tory) wants him gone only reaffirms that view. Johnson has to go, he's just a dreadful man and the worst PM we've ever had. If he had a shred of decency, he'd have gone long ago.

Totally agree. And it worries me if LLF is correct and Starmer doesn't want rid of him yet, that the Labour Party is happy for us to carry on suffering under a regime led by a lying, corrupt obnoxious self-serving ****wit like Johnson. Is that what Starmer thinks we deserve? Starmer needs to put politics aside and put the national interest first. And that interest is best served getting rid of Johnson NOW and not sit back and watch whilst he does further damage to the country over the next 12 - 24 months.

Yep, and then it will go way and in the meantime, as you say, they’ve quietly voted to break a bigger promise. Wouldn’t be shocked if it was Johnson himself behind the leaks.

I'm not sure that will help his cause as it is absolutely pathetic to hold an enquiry to find out if he sanctioned or attended the party. If Johnson doesn't know the answer to that question, then he is obviously unwell and incapable of holding the highest office in the land.

The PMG was appalling yesterday answering - or rather avoiding answering - any questions whatsoever. One of the worst parliamentary performances I have ever seen. I thought ministers had a statutory obligation to provide answers to the House. Obviously I was wrong.

Grieve, Soames, Hesletine a reminder of why I did actually used to Vote Tory. Then they became a English nationalist cult and lost all moral compass...
