On the 15th May 2020 I was in Eastbourne General ICU holding my Mum's hand, telling her what a great Mum she was, but all she could say was "I can't breathe" as the oxygen was pumping into her.
I asked the nurse if they could put a stop to her suffering.
It still hurts as much today as it did then.
She didn't recover.

Cruelly sums it up perfectly RC. Thank you for sharing and so sorry for your loss.

What I find remarkable is that it’s his appearance at Downing Street socials people find so abhorrent. Everything about him is despicable. Frankly going for drinks during lockdown is hardly the crime of the century compared to all his other misdemeanours and incompetencies.

Listen, Al Capone got done for tax fraud. Sometimes you’ve got to work with the tools you have.

Really? You find it hard to understand that people find it abhorrent that those that were partying having already told the rest of we couldn't were also not allowing relatives to be with their dying loved ones.

It isn't just one thing, it is the drip drip drip of appalling decisions and behaviour by Johnson.

I think the expression they use in the "Westminster Bubble" is "cut through" and this one certainly has.

That is heartbreaking. I am so sorry RC.

How anyone can defend this bunch of shysters is beyond me.

Enough is enough, he has to go.

I did enjoy Smug Eddie's sister Thornberry on Politics Live today.

Lovely lady, could do a job

When this thread started just over a week ago, I thought it would be 'just another' example of what Johnson has always done for the last 25+ years, but with the post above I think it's confirmed, only Mouldy Boots and Pretty pink fairy still supporting Johnson after two votes and 6.5 years

Other than the few who won't come out, but still try to justify what's happening, 'they're all as bad etc'

Still, no serious damage done ... eh :shootself

Super Steve Earle does; he thinks all the parties stuff from a year ago is old news and should be forgotten.

There are still a lot of supporters out there however. The Tories are confident that they'll retain North Shropshire, despite all the news about the party's behaviour last Christmas (and despite the candidate being kept away from the constituency as he knew so little about the area). It shows that the opposition parties are really going to have to get their act together to beat the Conservatives in any election.

Many of the other misdemeanours escape a proportion of the population - who are largely disinterested in the behaviour of politicians. Bungs, contracts to friends and so on are outside their scope and interest. Or they simply expect it and have seen it before with the expenses scandal and other irregularities.

But telling people not to mix socially and then hypocritically doing it themselves, and being found out, really gels with people and cuts through their sense of fair play. Hence the one rule headlines in the press. It's made worse because of the heartbreaking stories of last contact by Skype, whilst at the same time the entitled few, who deem themselves not just above the law but consider themselves rightfully just in ignoring it because "they work tirelessly and constantly day and night to save the nation."

The problem (for them) is they are being found out.

The met police are ever so gently being forced in to having to investigate illegality in the face of overwhelming evidence... They have studiously avoided looking at parties in 10 Downing st but have suddenly become interested in just 2 of the 20+ people who had a bit of a do at Conservative HQ........ How much more evidence do they need to look at the very real offences that occurred right under our Prime Ministers nose with his tacit approval ?

Boris is doing his damn best to make this go away.

Pointless press conference yesterday and wheeling out the terrible two to tell us what we already know (even though they don’t know themselves), expressing faux outrage at something he knew full well has happened and generally using the press to deflect attention.

Like many others, I am furious about this. I really hope press grow a pair and go after him.

I think they would like to, but accusations simply bounce off. They've known about these parties for a year, but have waited the evidence.

They are playing a clever game of advent calendar.

Christmas stories always go down better at Christmas anyway.

You ain’t seen nothing yet.

North Shropshire by-election 2021
Conservative - 12,032
Labour - 3,686
Libdem - 17,957
Green - 1,738
Reclaim - 375
Reform - 1,427

This seat has been Tory since 1832.
Tactical voting from Labour, abstentions from Tories have caused a huge swing to LD. of course it is just a by-election but it is a big protest against corruption, sleaze, lies, and taking voters for granted.

"....an utter body blow for the prime minister.

There will be a lot of speculation and a very difficult political moment about what that means for his leadership.

I suspect because Parliament will be off for Christmas holidays, he will have a bit of breathing space, but make no mistake, it has been a cataclysmic few months for Boris Johnson.

It just got even worse."

34% swing, clearly some Labour lent votes but a collapse for the Tories.

'Only' a by election but still. Bloody hell.
