[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

He mentioned about having full details in a few weeks of who has access to free tests and who doesnt.

I am not sure getting rid of tests is the best way, but I dont think spending 2billion on them is the best way either.

I’ve seen rumours of over 80s.

Oh! and I have gout in my left foot, which is curtailing my walking

Are you taking allopurinol? It should sort you out. And lay off the port!

I was (wrongly) diagnosed with gout a few years ago (it was a march fracture) and the daft bint at the surgery gave me colchicine to quell the inflammation prior to the allopurinol. The colchicine stripped out my gut lining and, together with the aggravation of milk on my (undiagnosed) lactose intolerance, I was on the shitter for hours every monrning for a month.

I think the £2B is for all testing, lateral flow and PCR. PCR testing costs will include the hire of portacabins, marquees, staff, venues and obviously the kits and lab testing.
There is an alternative of removing the walk in/drive in venues and all the associated equipment that the government has been renting, and just have postal tests for PCR for free or subsidised, and lateral flows free or subsidised.

A figure of 20 quid for seven lateral flow tests has been mentioned on the news this morning. That sounds crazy. People just won’t test at all.

its £20 a pack of 7, they're about £3 each. thats NHS negotiated fixed contract price, expect them to be less on open market.

current spending is ~£2billion a month for all Test and Trace programme.

Port, I should be so lucky - it looks like the flare was caused by a massive uptake of caffeine due to me getting a Nespresso machine for my birthday!

Currently on Colchicine, have been offered to go onto Allopurinol once current flare is settled. Also been offered a full raft of blood tests, including PSA - fingers crossed they don't come back with anything.

Which brings us neatly back to the idea of testing, or not - clearly the current thinking is, if you don't test people you don't get cases, job done!

Yes, I have come to the same conclusion. We are treated to a daily news diet of ‘restauranteurs’ talking about their freedom to make money (this morning’s on Sky was some fella from East London). Tory back benchers seem only interested in the same apart from when they are exploiting the vogue issue of mental health to back their case. I am all for the economy opening up at the moment and my wife and I are making the most of being triple jabbed and having had Covid recently. However, I don’t see a plan B if things take a turn for the worse again. As you say that eventuality seems to be being excluded by simply not testing anymore.
By the way, sorry to hear about your health issues. Hopefully you get some good news going forwards.

That's what they want.

Nobody testing = nobody testing positive = no cases = pandemic over!

Even Trump realised this, and he was rightly laughed at because he said the quiet part out loud. This lot are far more subtle.

The arse end of Hangleton
Won't stop me getting it from some selfish c**t who is sick as a dog and insists on coming in to the office.

The problem being that many companies don't pay full sick pay only SSP. I worked for a local telecoms company for a while and despite the owners being millionaires they refused to pay full sick pay - their argument being that a large part of the workforce were young and so they would be paying for hangovers. If you've ever connected to the wireless at the Amex you'll know who I'm talking about.

Boris Johnson announces that self isolation for people who test positive for Covid will be axed.

People will be asked to exercise personal responsibility just as we encourage people who may have flu to be considerate to others.

The personal responsibility bit.

I'll be as cautious as I can be. Won't stop me getting it from some selfish c**t who is sick as a dog and insists on coming in to the office.

So as expected the run down of free tests has already started,

Order rapid lateral flow tests online
You can order one pack every 3 days. A pack contains 7 tests.

Was 24 hours now 72 hours

Sorry, there are no home delivery slots left for rapid lateral flow tests right now

So being held back until have to pay for them.

Is this all part of a plan to get people used to paying for medical services, given that currently, blood tests are free, HIV tests are free, STI tests are free, in fact other than pregnancy tests where it seems most women will buy tests from chemists, all tests free.

So how long before Johnson and Co impose a full American style health service on the country.

More likely there has been a surge in demand this week in anticipation of the changes. We ordered some at the end of last week for exactly this reason. If you expected it then perhaps you should have done the same.

Stop putting it on the poster. The problem is supply is outstripping demand. This is the fault of the government, not the people who lacked your incredible foresight
