Depressingly, I can already see that the campaigns for the two parties are going to be based on 'Vote for us because the other lot are shitehouse', as opposed to 'Vote for us because we'll do X, Y and Z to make your life better'.

Don't underestimate the silent voters.

They voted for Brexit and this government in 2019.

If the Tories get desperate and slide in a couple policies such as leaving the ECHR then you might be surprised
Regarding the ECHR, my question is, Why do you want to lose your rights.

Oh, but the government will introduce British Human Rights

You trust the government to replace every human right from the ECHR with our own?
Are you aware that Sir Winston Churchill was one of the instigators of the ECHR, and it was formed before the EEC/EU started?
Are you aware that Boris Johnson's maternal grandfather was in the ECHR for over 20 years, whilst being President for 10 of those years? There are two British judges in the European Court of Human Rights.

No reply.

Instead they have decided to chase up people selling on Etsy and Vinted for sales tax. One of the more dumb-as-f*** vote-losing wheezes I have ever come across. I gather also that if you pay your neice a tenner to babysit the nipper that will also have to go through the books. Good luck with that.

Nicky Campbell had a phone in on it this morning and I'm not sure that a single member of the public called in. He instead chatted to a tax expert for fifteen minutes, and was then relieved of the torpor for a further ten minutes by an extended news piece about a disaster in Japan. Strange that members of the public weren't driven to phone in and discuss how they will be employing a tax advisor to help them declare their eBay sales income. Who would have thought? ???

I’m pretty sure the polling gap will narrow once the election is called. At that point, people have to make a choice and the proportion of “don’t knows” shrinks. The relentless lies of the government will convince some of the currently undecideds BUT…

We tend to collectively vote with our pockets. The government can wheel out all the false statistics they like, but they will run out of road once more or less everybody feels poorer.

I’m fairly sure the government is toast. It might not be the 1997 style landslide polls suggest at present, but Labour should be able to win a majority. While the Tories got a majority of 80 last time round, a lot of those seats were won by relatively small margins. It will not require a big swing to remove a chunk of the government’s seats and, with Labour seemingly back in play in Scotland, no amount of wedge issue populism will save them from a broke electorate.

And I’m going to throw myself into the Basingstoke Canal if I’m wrong.

I'm with you, as far as feeling utterly helpless and lost if the Tories were to somehow defy the odds, and get back in.

However, there is no way that I'm going anywhere near Basingstoke.
It’s OK. I’m nowhere near Basingstoke. It’s just the canal runs through the town. You’ll be more than welcome to join me in a ceremonial canal toss. So to speak.

Worth remembering one of the requirements of being in Horizon is membership of the ECHR…

Nearly eight years on from the vote, have we taken back control? Are we now in control? Is this what control looks like?

If it is, I'd hate to think what the country would look like if we weren't in control. Thank heavens for all this control.
