[Misc] Toronto - where to stay

scooter1

How soon is now?
Planning a trip to the US next year and looking to finish in Toronto for 4 days. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to stay? There will be 5 of us, and would prefer an apartment/house. We’re not looking to hire a car, so close to a metro stop would be handy
thanks in advance

Just come back from Canada - stayed in Hotel X by the exhibition centre - not sure there was 4 days of stuff to do in Toronto, near to train, metro and bus (we used all three)

There are plenty of hotels in the dowtown core, all close to Line 1 on the subway. It really depends on your budget. The Westin Harbour is right by the waterfront next to the ferry terminal (good for a day trip to the Islands) and a short walk to Union station which gives you access to the subway and trains (there are trains to Niagara Falls).

Also, lots of hotels close to Nathan Phillips Square and Dundas Square, which is the main downtown. The only hotel I've stayed in myself is the Chelsea Hotel, which a little bit dated but affordable and convenient. Otherwise there's Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton and a few others in the same area.

I can't advise much on specific apartments or Airbnbs but if you find any I'm happy to take a look and let you know if it's in a good neighbourhood, close to things. One thing I would say is AVOID a building called ICE Condominiums (12-16 York Street). It has a reputation for Airbnb parties which often get the police involved.

Also, happy to give you tips on things to do. The big tourist stuff can probably be done in a couple of days but I can point you to other places to visit. And if you're around when there's a Brighton match on, we'll be in the Queen and Beaver pub!

There's nothing to do in Etobicoke and this is nowhere near the subway.

Definitely stay in the downtown vicinity.

Air BnB is mostly illegal in apartment buildings (although it does still happen). You could likely find a house in the Little Italy area that would be a good location to base yourself in. 'Basements' are common here and would likely be the cheaper option (but still not cheap!).

Like Badger, happy to look at any you pick or make some suggestions if you confirm your dates.

I assume (hope) you're not coming in Winter?

Four days is far too long in Toronto unless you have something specific planned.
Really? I spent two weeks there and didn’t have enough time to see everything I wanted to. Admittedly I was working but only for 4 hours a day. It’s a big place, with loads to do.

Two weeks??! I'm baffled and genuinely curious how you'd fill your days. Can you give me an example itinerary for a few days to satisfy my curiosity? Would you do one small activity per day or something?
