I can understand why farmers are upset but I think many will be ok if they sell British branded quailty foods to the middle and higher end markets (i.e. yer Sainos and Waitroses plus butchers and specialist grocers).

If anything this will reinforce food apartheid and reduce health standards further in the poor. Our family are currently lucky enough to be choosy about our food and this means we already buy mostly British, meat from the butcher, eggs from Macs farm etc. We won't touch Danish pork or anything that's been through Holland (or we suspect has). But not everyone has that luxury and we might not after covid for all I know.

The final irony of that, though, is that most of the areas that voted for Brexit are stuffed with turkey twizzler guzzling fatties anyway. Yes, that's a snobbish generalisation, before you say so gammon gang, but it's possible for me to make it because it's mostly true. You didn't see Jamie Oliver tackling the fish counter at Hove Waitrose, did you?

You get what you pay for and you get what you vote for in the end

So nobody will read it.

Sorry - my understanding was that anything Brexit related should be in the Brexit thread - nothing to do with it being read or not. Maybe Guinness Boy could confirm ?

I kind of have by replying on this thread.

I have no problem with specific food legislation being a separate thread at the moment. Sure, there's a Brexit link but there's a lot more to this if people want to analyse and debate like adults.

I'm not by any means the only moderator on this board either so should people not behave like adults I won't be making unilateral decisions. And any other mod is free to merge this now if they so choose.

Seems most farmers got what they wanted so not sure why they are complaining.

https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/665784/EU-referendum-farmers-poll-Brexit

I'm reminded of the fella (possibly from the Midlands) who's entire business was based around the Dutch flower markets.

He proudly voted for Brexit.

But back to the topic at hand.

Nobody should be surprised by this, the Government, through the voice of Gove, said quite simply this will not happen.

So of course, at the first available opportunity, it backtracked.

This is exactly the issue. This won’t affect the butchers or the packs of organic chicken breasts on the supermarket shelves.

The chlorinated chicken will be the cheap shit which we don’t actually pay attention to. It’ll be the chicken in ready meals, meal deal sandwiches, processed chicken products, fried chicken shops and the like. The market isn’t stupid, they know chlorinated chicken is unpopular so they will hide it where people aren’t looking.

Turkeys and early Christmas sounds rather appropriate now.

its curious how one can vote for something by voting for legislation that doesnt include that thing. presumably food standards under other legislation still stand, unless they have been repealled, which the article makes no mention of.

Surely should be in the Brexit thread ?

Surely someone yourself that refuses eat in Donatello's and uses an artisan butcher will want this highlighted with its own thread?

Patrick Minford Jacob Ree Mogg economist of choice always said the destruction of UK manufacturing and farming would be the price for leaving the protection of the European Union.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O-N8KwQ1XA

However, the likes of Michael Gove said leaving the EU would lead to higher food standards. Maybe he's having second thoughts after consultations with the "experts"

Usual scaremongering by the left wing and reamoaners , the government has repeatedly said the current EU standards of food and farming will be transferred as a whole to UK law at a later point in the year, the amendments and adjustments to this process will just make that simple process of transfer of current EU standards to UK standards alot more complicated by changing it at this time!
