if voters are voting against easing of planning law, they better pipe down about housing for their families and key workers. we cannot solve the problem of housing without thousands of new homes in every district.

There's a big difference between what is morally right and what people will vote for. I cite as evidence B Johnson and D Cummings.

same applies. if people want infrastructure they need to accept infrastructure is built. locals complained about roads getting clogged up, a lorry park provided, then complain about that.

The roads were only previously clogged up when the ferries were on strike. People didn't want infrastructure.

Next to a global pandemic, this is THE issue facing us. A total rethink of Urban planning and housing economics has to take place urgently on a cross party non partisan basis and undertaken with the same vigour and focus as vaccine development and rollout.

Your quite right here. I absolutely see no point in moaning about new developments these days, because in the end the big developers will eventually push it through. The country needs new housing, these people support new housing, but not in their own back yard.

You do do realise you’re talking to a wokey cokey?
They are born miserable..
To be honest I thought I could spot a wokey cokey, but I clearly missed this unhappy chappy.

No, when you post misogynist nonsense, sometimes people point that out in the hope that you might reappraise your sexist attitudes.

But as long you're married as it's just banter, that's OK.

Tits! Ha ha ha ha ha. She's got tits! ha ha ha ha

Better?
Ahh, I knew you would get me in the end.

The Tories still need to be careful they don't bite the hand that feeds them. If they lose the moneyed NIMBY vote with planning changes and HS2 and manage to alienate their socially liberal remainer wing by cosying up to the alt right, that only leaves the Brexity red wall. What happens when these people inevitably find out they've been lied to and they're now expected to do the jobs of the people they've driven out.

Boris, like Trump, has gambled on sticking a load of iffy policies for his followers on the back of "post truth". The public's reaction to GB News and the Cummings revelations seems to suggest that actually the public in Britain still favour a bit of honesty.

tl;dr? Who is going to vote Tory up North now that Brexit is "done"?

Yes, all that....but . . . what about Jeremy Corbyn eh? ???

West is BEST
Eton trying to sell a vast amount of land (circa 500 acres) in East Sussex for 3,000 homes to be built on the edge of Downs. That should lose the Tory's a few thousand votes.

I think the proximity of HS2's route to Amersham may have played a part as well. But nevertheless a very big swing against the Tories. The acid test will be at the next GE. Often you see results like this mid-term but they then revert at the next GE. Will also require Labour/Lib Dem/Greens not falling out over who is going to target which seats if they really want to make a dent in the south.

Amersham is a fairly pleasant Buckinghamshire town, in respect to its shops, eateries and general niceness.
Its elderly relative, Old Amersham is a picture of 'oldie woldly England'.
Roald Dahl would be turning in his grave.
As you've already mentioned, I suspect a major decision in change is because of HS2, which is carving its way through the county, like a Katie Price surgeon.

John Bercow, former House of Commons Speaker, has defected to Labour, not that it will greatly worry the Conservatives, I don't suppose:

Fantastic.

Let’s hope he can get some influence and drag them further into the centre. The darling of millions and millions of Tory remainers will surely bring some credibility for voting Labour to educated Tories across the country.

His first allegiance was always to John Bercow ........................... and the second, and the third ........................ No loss to the Tories, and I doubt he's broadly welcomed by Labour. If I was Keir Starmer, I'd politely ask him if he wouldn't rather join the Lib Dems, please!
Not that he's likely to get into Parliament again anyway.

John Bercow supports Labour = another few hundred thousand red wall votes going to the Tories [emoji106]

The red wall will remain. It's just that instead of it being Labour territory, it's red of the flush faced, angry, gammon with their faux patriotism to cover up their inept understanding of politics.
