The next election is ON!
I keep saying this.
Anywhere with a majority of educated people are going to turn on this Government. Educated Brexiteers have acknowledged the win and moved on. Your church wardens, your WI leaders, the pillars of leafy suburban and rural England are sick of Johnson & co. They are smart enough to see how astonishingly incompetent this lot are. They are not drunk on the nationalism, the bias levelling-up, the anti-immigration or anti-identity politics spouted by this awful cabinet.
The Tories have lost the Times, Daily Mail & Telegraph readers but Sun readers will remain loyal.
The next election is ON! I can now see a Lib-Dem-Labour coalition which I believe would be the best outcome for the Country.
The Blue wall in the south will be demolished!
Fantastic result!
Labour basically stepped aside didn’t they? I guess they hope libs do same In Batley and spen.
It could be if Labour, the LibDems and the Greens got their act together and thrashed out a proper progressive alliance. But they won’t, meaning the electoral maths still easily stack up for the Tories.
I share your enthusiasm. We saw something a bit similar in Worthing with the swing to Labour in the council election. It could be that in Tory constituencies where there is a clear alternative there might be a tipping point which sees significant tactical voting to oust the incumbent. Of course this would be easier to achieve if other candidates stood down to clear the path for the non-Tory candidate. We are still a long way from this but it could be the only way to rid ourselves of this dreadful government.
With no UKIP/Brexit Party to split the Tory vote, something needs to be engineered by centre-left leaning parties: if the best hope for the country is a Coalition built after an election, then why not pave the way for it before one? Were I running the Conservative electoral machine, this would give me sleepless nights.
This result backs up what I've been saying for a long time - Labour and Lib Dem need to merge.
There is zero chance of defeating the Tories if the left is split, while Labour are too left for the mainstream voter. Labour voted tactically for the Lib Dems here but there is no chance of that tactical voting happening on a national scale.
I wonder if anyone from the Brighton and Hove area went there to help the Tories campaign?

Happened a lot in 2017 though.

Interesting.
Have the shires had enough of the Tories?
how did that work for them? most Labour gains came in Scotland from the SNP.
