There used to be this old boy in Newhaven years ago who used to come up with a reasonable pub quiz, but as a bunch of a) early twentysomethings and b) human beings would always come unstuck on a couple of his niche rounds about ludicrously obscure things only he and his mates knew, such as 18th century ships. :wozza:

His mates obviously won on the couple of occasions we tried his quiz, so, pissed off with this bias, my mate asked the pub landlord if he could have a go at writing the quiz the next time.

With these three old stooges taking their chances and hoping that my mate may have just the odd historical boat question that they may get, it was priceless to see their expressions of disgust during some of the rounds, which included one where the best caricature of the barman got all the points, and another round purely about my mate who was hosting the quiz. Needless to say, they didn't complete the quiz!

So yeah, in answer to the original thread starter, I'm shit at questions about old boats.

I did a quiz at my local a few weeks back (ie wrote it and was quizmaster for the evening).
Sport, TV / Films, General Knowledge and Music rounds, plus a couple of picture rounds (one of them being 'identify the World Cup shirt'). All went rather well from memory. Nobody left anyway.

The first quiz me and a friend ever set for a pub we used to frequent had a team of 6 walk out after 2 or 3 so questions saying that if it was this hard they were off.
I can still remember the first 2 questions so here goes............ will NSC walk out ?

Who co designed and financed the building of 'The Spruce Goose'

Which American band were named after a firetruck.

Not that hard surely ?

No idea on those, Questions. My first two were from the sports round, and the FIRST one I actually nicked off here:

1. Which feat was first achieved by Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1986, though subsequently also achieved by Burnley in 1992 and Preston North End in 1996?

2. Which three holes comprise “Amen Corner” at Augusta ? (1 pt per hole)

Before starting it, I let each team select one round as their JOKER round, so they'd pre-select either sport, TV / Film, Gen Knowledge or Music and double up on their points tally for that round. Adds a bit of an EDGE.

I'd have to say my weakest areas are:

-the Luxembourg national space programme, 1971- 1984

That's a trick question though, surely? Everyone knows Luxembourg didn't have a national space programme until 1978.

It was operated on a regional basis before then.

You've got me nailed there. My mistake. I was thinking of Liechtenstein :dunce:
