the Royal Oak in Poynings is a really excellent pub and superb food.

The Six Bells at Chiddingly do the best Chilli this side of Mexico City and their Harveys is good too.

The two fish restaurants on the seafront opposite the West Pier are both rather good.

The Friars Oak on the A273 just outside Hassocks QUOTE]

That is a Vintage Character Inns Pub,a large chain owned by M & B and has the same menu as all of their other 100 + pubs. Not bad value for a cheap and cheerful meal but could never be put amongst the better class pubs for food like the Plough at Poynings, well that was good the last time I went in there, but like all pubs change the owner or chef and more often that not the food changes. A good example of that is the Royal Oak at Wivlesfield which used to be good, but is nowhere near as good since it changed hands and reduced the menu. Well not in my opinion it isnt.

The Five Bells in West Chiltington used to have a very good reputation for food, all lovingly prepared by the wife of the landlord, ask Superphil if it is still up to the mark as I am pretty sure it is his local.

The Jolly Sportsman at East Chiltington is excellent.

In town, have to agree that Good Friends is superb Chinese. Due South is good. Food for Friends consistently excellent (even if you're not a veggie).. much better than the hugely over-rated Terre a Terre. Bill's is nice down North Road too.

I've been going to FFF since 1980 (I've had more meals there than any other restaurant in Brighton, in fact, probably more than all of them put together) but it's gone really down hill in the last couple of years. The last few times I've been there the food has been pretty poor and the service has been diabolical - after 25 years of loyal custom I've had to say enough is enough.

Each to his own of course but I think TaT is superb - some of the most inventive cooking I've experienced anywhere

Simon sold it to some foreign lads about 4 yrs ago. I worked at my Dads company when the deal was done. Paid TOP money for it.

That explains it then. The place was superb for years and years and just seemed to collapse completely - I won't be going back again.

I spent three weeks in Bristol back in January, you are really spoilt when it comes to places to eat...found a really good Asian restaurant called the Old India, in the old stock exchange...superb food, one of the best Indian restaurants I have eaten in. Other highlights included a Japanese restaurant, not far from the Indian, brilliant food and quite delightful waiting staff made it a top dining experience...so good I went there twice!

The Yeoman by the station is superb for food and has been for ages even with chef changes its maintained its high standard. The new chef at The Greys is from Due South so I would imagine that also retains its high standard (the new menu looks great). One I've been reading abut a lot, but have yet to visit is The Foragers in Hove, which gaining a reputation for being a good gastropub. I believe all three I've mentioned rely heavily on local produce.

Recently discovered MacDonalds. What a place, never knew it existed until recently but great food, atmosphere and staff.

Sounds good. Last week I visited 'Burger King'. I was duly impressed and asked if I could see the chef personally to congratulate him. Unfortunately my waitress spoke no English so this wasn't possible.
