Hoof that ball to Argentina,
Leo's lying on the floor,
Gordon Greer fell down again, and it's always just the same,
No one shot, no one tried and no one scored.

I'll get me coat...

If we're just going with initials, then Total Kock-up seems topical.

The only redeeming feature of this 'Top Kat' thread is that it has in a roundabout way made me think of Sgt Bilko, who hasn't passed across my brain in AGES.

As I understand the way McLaren's got them playing they try and play the game in their opponents half either by pressing or through possession and quick movement and passing. When we do get the ball there may well be space behind them for Lua Lua, Buckley, March to exploit at pace if we can get the ball to them quickly enough.

I may be mis-remembering, but how many pacey players have we had available when we played the this season? I seem to recall us being lacking in pace each time, hence plan B wasn't available.

They will do everything they can to pressure our defense and stop the slow build-up play.

We need to simply be wise to it and hope nerves don't effect our passing. If they run at Greer/full backs they'll leave gaps, we need to exploit it.

If we change the way we play against Derby they'll destroy us. We need to go and play our way. It's dull as dishwater but it's what they're used to now and changing it might be costly.

If it's 0-0 with 15 minutes left (in either leg) we have the attacking options to make a difference.

Someone I forget who, was on about the Derby press, earlier in the week and this has just jogged my memory.

Last season when teams pressed us, we would run through the following options.

1 Keeper checks fullbacks - if opposition closes them down.
2 Keeper checks centre backs - if opposition closes them down.
3 Centre backs move wider and Bridcutt drops short in the centre to collect the ball - if opposition closed him down
4 Another midfielder dropped into the hole to collect the ball

I don't think any side were ever prepared to commit that many players to the press and if they did , the ball over the top became a good option, as there was plenty of space to exploit. Often the ball would go from central midfield straight back to one of the fullbacks and we would build again. I am not sure if this was abandoned, as Ince lacks the close control and experience to play in such a confined space, or if this was just a tactical change, but it is one way to deal with a team pressing high up the pitch.
