Top Gear's Clarkson suspended by BBC

Jeremy Clarkson is set to make his first appearance on the BBC since losing his job as co-presenter on Top Gear.

The controversial broadcaster will appear as the guest host of Have I Got News for You on 24 April.

"Jeremy's contract has not been renewed on Top Gear but he isn't banned from appearing on the BBC," a BBC spokesman said.

Clarkson has hosted the satirical news quiz on numerous occasions.

During one appearance in 2008, he threw a pen at regular panellist Ian Hislop that left the latter with a cut on his face.

Clarkson was suspended by the BBC on 10 March following a "fracas" with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon in a hotel in North Yorkshire.
Mr Tymon suffered swelling and a split lip in the assault on 4 March and visited a hospital A&E department for his injuries.
Following an internal investigation, the BBC announced on 25 March Clarkson's contract on Top Gear would not be renewed.

Not saying he's not talented at doing Clarkson type stuff but aren't HIGNFY bods being a tad 2 faced; or is Angus's financial dispute with an escort woman a worse crime than JC smacking a subordinate in the mouth for no justified reason.

Angus wasn't ditched for his 'thing' with that person, he went because it was too difficult for him to take the mick out of people that had done wrong, due to how silly he'd look (and Ian and Paul would never stop taking the mick out of him).

I always think Clarkson looks very uncomfortable on HIGNFY (and QI) although certainly not the only guest or presenter to do so I suspect that he will be made even more uncomfortable on 24 April, which should make for good TV.

They (HIGNFY) can get away with a guest presenter being ridiculed.

is it? you may recall that conclusion was that Clarkson's contract would no be renewed. no disciplinary action, no sacking, just the end of the existing contract. why wouldnt they want to captialise on their back catalogue of Top Gear?

The main difference is whether it's permanent or a one off. Having Angus mock high profile people for their affairs/drug use each week, followed by the inevitable look of shock on Ian and Paul's faces, would have got boring quickly. It's not that Angus wasn't good at the job, he was, and he was well paid. But I don't think the program would have worked with the same presenter each week, if that presenter had been as daft as the people the programme looks to send up.

I assume this will also mean that he can now start to appear on some other channels too, don't recall seeing him outside of the BBC.

One thing you can guarantee is that HIGNFY will get big viewing figures for this episode so the public can witness Paul and Ian ripping Jeremy to shreds. I can't imagine that the producers are going to be too bothered if Jeremy comes out of this looking like a Muppet.

HIGNFY has never quite been the same since AD left. That's not entirely down to his absence. I accept. I also think Clarko was one of the best of the stand in presenters but given this 'one rule for one' approach and the fact that Jimmy Sommerville and Tony Hancock are not as sharp as they used to be in their prime, I think Clarko will emerge smelling of roses.

Apparently Toksvig is Danish, a lesbian and quite short. I can't remember who told me.

Are you referring to The News Quiz by any chance? Hardy & Toksvig etc. are utterly predictable and unfunny, but no doubt the show is recorded in Hampstead.
