I reckon they will get a new contract with someone else, surely with the viewing numbers, its too big to throw away?

Of course they will. It's hardly the worst thing in the world for them.

BBC did the right thing (even though it cost them money) you can't have the 'talent' assaulting the staff.

Money is on Chris Evans to take over...would be a good choice

I see Clarkson is still scheduled to present Have I Got News For You in April, so AFTER his Top Gear contract has been ended. Now that might be worth a watch.

I don't see that the BBC had much choice in the matter. I don't watch Top Gear but I do watch and listen to a lot of BBC output so the bigger picture on this is important.

I wonder how Hammond and May feel about continuing presenting the programme? They won't get a bigger gig than that. Could it work with a guest presenter, or presenters?

They could go back to doing a show about cars.

A car review show would be, quite frankly, boring as hell.

Whether you like Top Gear in it's current form or not, you have to be honest. An hour of car reviews with no entertainment format would be horrendous viewing and lose the BBC a fortune.

others have tried that, dont get the interest. the whole point about Top Gear is the focus on car porn and silly challenges. listening to someone say how good or bad the Ford Focus 1.8D is just doesn't do it for viewers these days.

Yes? Why don't you put £50 on him then?

I have a fiver on him, at 15s. Got that a while ago. Personally I think it should be claire balding...after all she is on every other show

interesting point to note they haven't sacked/dismissed him, or even disciplined Clarkson, just not renewed his contract. makes you wonder how big an incident it was after all.

Russel Brand wanted to do it, until someone pointed out that 'Top Gear' was in fact a programme about cars.

Apologies if that joke's been made but given the length of this thread I'm not wading through pages of what is undoubtedly a monumental binfest between boorish petrolheads and sanctimonious tw@ts.

So, presumably if he had had three years to run on his contract then the Beeb might not have done anything???

Simon Dee disappeared w/o trace after being dropped by the BBC. The same could happen to Clarkson. No loss to me.

That was in the 1970's when there weren't as many options. Clarkson will have offers from ITV, Sky and other television production companies within days.

Dee did get a huge offer from ITV, and it flopped.

Quite a few people have left their "home" channel and had to either come scurrying back or faded to obscurity as the new format hasn't worked - including BBC to ITV or v/v swaps.

Aside of a few Top Gear specials the show it tired now, perhaps the likes of Chris Evans is just what it needs

Chris Evans? I thought that he was seen as a bigger twonk than Clarkson, or is he popular again now?

James May should take over. He likes a laugh but not in the obnoxious Clarkson manner.
