Maybe they know something about incoming signings we don't. There is a certain free agent still kicking around in Spain, come on Tony get the wallet out, we've even got the song:-

Who's that man from Argentina, who's that man we all adore.

Lionel is his name and he scores ten goals a game

and we don't need Murray/Welbeck/ Maupay/ Connelly anymore...

Just have to persuade Mac Allister to give up the number 10 shirt..

What a pile of absolute garbage. If we make it to 15th then we’ve done very well, if we make it to 14th then we’ve had an outstanding season. There is no chance we’ll finish higher than that on our budget.

Bloom, Barber, Potter and Ashworth disagree, let's hope they're right!

Rubbish unless anybody can convince me how with basically same squad we are better than last season

Even ignoring xg, it is interesting to look at actual goal difference for last season. We would have finished comfortably 11th (up 4) in a gd table, the only other team who would move significantly from their actual placing would have been Spurs (also up 4). Suggests we are small margins away from being much better!

The bit I'm most interested in is who we'll take 0.7pts off.

If you simply extrapolate the second half of last season (19 games, 24 points) you get to 48 points for the season. It's not unreasonable to assume we continue in the same vein....and maybe get a little of the luck which we missed in the matches v West Brom, Palace, Wolves, etc.

All our younger players have a season more PL experience behind them - and being a young squad, this works in our favour. They'll have learned a lot.

(Plus we were pretty much mid table through the second half of the season (as our young players learned, developed and got better).

Last season, our many missed chances cost us dearly, and could have cost us our premier league status and all that goes with it.

It's a racing certainty that the club will have been crawling all over them, studying why we missed so many, and what we could have done differently to put them away. While other clubs will have been working on their own weaknesses, it's not unreasonable to expect our goal tally in the coming season to be better than the last. I hope I'm not tempting fate...

Hang on .... Isn't that worse than last season's hypothetical table had us finishing?

Potter out!
