I don't watch a lot of television to be honest, probably because I work in television. I don't know to be honest. But surrounded by people who do, I can take a back seat and appreciate what's great even if I don't watch it / like it.

There is a tendancy to hark back to a golden age that wasn't. For every Fawtly Towers and Dad's Army there was a raft of complete crap. My measure is whether is will be constantly repeated for years.

It ain't half Hot Mum wasn't actually that funny. Neither was Dick Emery. The Harry Enfield Show and the Fast Show very very quickly appeared dated.

A couple of recent ones that will repeat and repeat and repeat.

Top Gear - sorry, some of the specials and stunts are really up there.
The Office - Actually, not my favourite but unique, stopped at the right time and up there with Fawlty Towers in my opinion. The training day it utter utter genius.,

Just had a long debate with Mrs Tackle about this. She's a bit more cultured than me (ahem) but we were in general agreement. Obviously my picks are related to the fact I'm UK based (and biased), my need for instant gratification, happy endings, hilarity and escapism, and my short attention span. Given that, and no restrictions on length of series, or anything, I'd be please to know what have I missed. In alphabetical order this is my top 30:

1. Blackadder
2. Brass eye
3. Cracker
4. Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush
5. Dr Who
6.Duckman
7.Endeavour
8.Episodes
9.Family Guy
10.Friday Night Dinner
11.Gladiators
12.Green Wing
13.House of Cards
14.Life on Mars
15.Match of the Day
16.Millennium
17.Morse
18.Red Dwarf
19.Sherlock
20.Silent Witness
21.Singing Detective
22.Southpark
23.Spooks
24.TFI Friday
25.The Day Today
26.The Fast Show
27.The Word
28.This Life
29.VR5
30.X Files

The Killing
Game of Thrones.

Yeah, its interesting to see these suggestions. I must confess having never watched GoT or 24, and having never heard of The Killing. Many years ago someone (on here) recommended Curb Your Enthusiasm. I have tried to watch it, but it didn't quite happen for me. Cheers.

What no room for only fools and horses

Or indeed Porridge, Open all hours etc etc

There are so many which were more than 30 years ago but were SO GOOD that they are still aired from time to time in some cases and regularly in the case of others.

If you're referring to the young ones its second on my list, but yes I've just noticed some of mine are over 30 years old, I done a quick bit of mental and thought if they were post 1975 I'd be okay!! Where the flip has the last 30 years gone????

Maybe you're whooshing me, in which case, fair play. But, given your username, I was actually referring to Not the Nine O'Clock News, which you didn't mention in your list.
