Picture the scene,us and Brentford 2 teams going well near the top of div3.A cold dark November day with what felt like a very tense atmosphere.I think there had been a load of trouble before the game and at least 2 of the 4 pubs on each corner of the ground had been smashed up.A very tight game and into the second half.Never forget Brighton had behind the goal and half way down the side standing under cover.Nelson picks the ball up in his own half and sets of down the wing.He seems to beat the whole Brentford team, cuts in and unleashes a pile driver from the edge of the box which flies in the top corner. We go absolutely f@@@ing mental.
Never forget it as long as i live.

Also does anyone remember the goal Mark Gall got against Millwall when he beat a load of players and put it in?.I think we might have lost 4-3.

I think you will find he actually pick the ball up in the car park behind the ground and beat six coppers, three stewards and 28 fans in the home end first.

My other two are Gerry Ryan at the Goldstone against Manchester City

Glad somone mentioned that...

Surprised no-one's mentioned Gary Williams v Forest at the Goldstone - our fall back beating Shilton from 30 yards! Goal of the Month on MoTD I seem to remember. Clough described it as a fluke.

How can we get hold of the Brentford footage? Was their footage? Doh, it was in the cup so of course there would be.

This would make an interesting project.

1/. Willie Irvine v Aston Villa (on Match of the Day and was second in Goal of the Season)
2/. Mark Lawrenson v Wolves (I was in South stand Lawro picked ball up at edge of box and just ran up to the North Stand end brushing aside umpteen Wolves challenges and slipping it past Bradshaw(I think)
3/. Gerry Ryan v Notts Forest ( could have had a cup of tea , sunday lunch and an afternoon snooze by the time the ball dribbled past Shilton-turning point in the 79-80 season)

I could have included many Wardy efforts including his first senior goal at Hereford or Bobby's Halifax stunner or any Charlie Oatway rarity.

Yes, I think it was - a postponed 3rd Round FA Cup tie, evening match, brilliant game - even tho we lost 3-2!

Good luck - I already tried a few years back, even to the extent of contacting Brentford and one of their fanzines. Even as recently (?!) as 1987, most matches simply weren't filmed. That said, it is just possible the goals could have been featured on local TV.

Still can't figure out why I didn't go. I was actually living in West London at the time!

My 3 favourites are

1. Gordon Smith Vs ManUre
2. Matthew Edwards Vs ManUre
3. Dean Wilkins Vs Ipswich

Would love to fit in Sergei Gotsmanov's goal Vs Hull at The Goldstone but can't put it above the 3 already mentioned. Out of interest does anyone have that goal on video? Could it be uploaded to youtube?

Was that Brian Bromley goal the one he scored after running through from his own penalty area then unleashing an unstoppable shot from about 25 yards out?

It's certainly the one I remember best. The pitch was quite heavy so to hit a shot like that after running 2/3 the length of the pitch was unbelievable! Just couldn't remember the opposition. thought it might have been Rochdale.

I think it was against Tommy Lawrence the old Liverpool keeper.

Mind you it was a few years ago now.
