Tony Bloom on the pitch yesterday

Despite everything we've been through, despite the years of letter writing and valentine sending and balloon tying, despite the hours and hours of sitting in the rain at Withdean, when the team step out on the pitch in the first Championship game at season I think we'll feel like the luckiest fans in the world.

If it wasn't for his drive and ego this club would probably have folded. There are far too many snide digs a DK on this forum these days imo. Can't we just appreciate what both have done, it's not a competition.

Is the correct answer, Dick Knight needed to get in front of the cameras to promote Brighton and Hove Albion FC, it wasn't the fact that he was some kind of media whore. Tony Bloom (bless his cotton socks) has orchestrated the situation that was created by Dick Knight to a position where the team, the club and the sale of season tickets tells it's own story. He doesn't have to sell the club the way that Dick Knight had to.

Not going near the DK debate this time.

Bloom however is a total f***ing hero. We would be dead without him. My thoughts from Saturday though were how can anyone actually be smaller than Liam Bridcutt!!!

Problem is when we won trothies and all was well at withdean dick knight got all the credit ahead of even the players and manager on here. Many of us knew dick was on borrowed time and he was just plodding on,he also got really lucky when bloom came up and pumped millions in.I know many worship knight on here but why?during most of the knight era blooms money was keeping us afloat.

Yes its old news now but bloom has done much much more than knight did and gets nowhere near as much credit FACT.Yes knight stepped in and done what any chairman would,ve done and that was to bring us back to brighton and he done that with not spending much money at all.

Both deserve great credit but bloom deserves 80% of it:clap:

p.s
Not having a dick knight bashing but people on here used to really fu$k me off with the god status towards knight:US:

Glad you all was proved wrong in the end:lol:

Spot on, apart from saving the club in 1997, returning the Albion to Brighton, delivering the Falmer YES campaign against all odds, and bringing Tony Bloom onto the board of directors, he did very little.

Why some people even give him the time of day is beyond me.

I have a feeling one or two people might not get that.

And the best thing about Bloom, is that he is one of the shrewdest men out there.

He'll know when to let things roll, and he'll know when to step in if he has too.

I dont really remember Mike Bamber, but was told he was one of the best chairman in football. (even Brian CLough liked him!!)

I wonder how Bloom compares to Bamber?

Bamber delivered top league football, backed his manager with cash, (which wasn't his), paid the players well, but ultimately there was a touch of the Peter Ridsdale 'living the dream' about his achievements, as they were built on foundations of sand.

They were however heady times, until fans got bored with the annual relegation scrap and started voting with their feet (9,000 for a top division match at the Goldstone in our final season for example).

I agree with you entirely that Martin Perry is an unsung hero of the Albion, along with the likes of Paul Samrah, but they get more brickbats than thumbs up from some quarters.

Martin Perry was brought in by Dick Knight.

You cannot have a dig at Knight simply because he didn't have the money that Bloom does. He deserves his place in our history.

Just far enough away from LDC
I was very pleased for Bloom that he was on the pitch - he deserved it and his decision to appoint Poyet was a fantastic one.

I won't get too much into the rewriting of history that is going on with this thread. Bloom took the applause, congratulated the team and did some tv interviews, which is exactly what knight did with previous championships. The history will be told but anybody who thinks that knight was holding out on people with real money to take the club forward is going to be sadly disappointed.

You CAN have a dig at him because of sacking the bestest manager we have ever had (7th!!!!!!!!!!!) and who is so Brighton through and through he lost every match when caretaker of Southampton earlier this season.
