I've come back home.
We could start by making sure the DJ (Nick Osbourne I think it is) knows that starting GOSBTS and then dropping the sound and just letting the crowd go for it is a GOOD IDEA and should be repeated.

They have already agreed to look at the best way to get the best out of GOSBTS. See bloom and Barber thread.

This, and scroll the words to the first verse on the tv screens and everyone will learn them after a few games.

To get the N stand singing as one you don't need a drum or a trumpeter, just one or two people starting and leading and if necessary conducting the chants from the lower middle like Dusseldorf do. If it's good enough for them can't see a problem for us. Oh, and they should be allowed to stand to do it, and take off their shirts if they want to!!

This subject was raised because people at the meeting asked whether GOSBTS was cut out on purpose at the last home match. Barber said it was a mistake but the response and sound of everyone singing was electric. This is what they would be hoping to recreate. If you haven't had time to watch the meeting its well worth a view at some point. This subject covered about 40min in. They also had people from the club who have specialised roles attending the meeting; discussing putting words for songs on the screens and other ideas, interestingly they recognised this area needs to given and will be given a far higher priority by people at the club. Also Barber did suggest the idea of mutually agreed changing of seats for people who want to sing etc.

None of your buisness
A free pie with every song you sing?

Well certainly last season was quiet; all the games started well singing wise, but when the team were flat, then the atmosphere tended to follow.

I've previously suggested to that nice Mr Barber that he should reconsider his totally intransigent attitude to "safe standing" and have a block designated for safe standing behind the North Stand goal. It would be natural for the singers to congregate there. It's all very well having a pop at the supporters for not singing, but a practical idea that would generate a far better atmosphere is just dismissed out of hand. As our American cousins would say...Go Figure!

Safe standing (to a greater or lesser degree) is prevalent at grounds all over Europe (particularly in Poland & Germany)....and nobody dies!

Then we have the stewarding issue....AGAIN!!

Last Saturday we had a ginger nob of a steward trying to enforce sitting in the back rows of the North Stand. Unless or until there is a serious threat to the safety of supporters, the stewards should just "sit down & shut up" as they are certainly a major stumbling block to getting a good atmosphere going throughout the game.

Some very good and fair points as evidenced by the Sydney video - thousands of fans of both teams behind the goals were STANDING (jumping up and down).

I noticed from my lofty perch in the WSU the stewarding in the NS and the club cannot expect the fans to make a proper atmosphere if silly stewarding spoils what we are trying to create.

For goodness sake, every week in the Prem there are thousands of fans standing at games and yet we take a small minded approach which will not help the situation.

Oh and create a proper singing section or sections but this is now going to be a nightmare to resolve because of existing STH's

We should bribe the referee for every home game to spend the first 5 minutes of the game giving every single decision to the opposition, giving nothing to us, unjustly booking 2 or 3 of our players, deny us a blatant penalty, and award the opposition a completely unjust penalty which Stockdale then saves.

That usually gets the atmosphere going.

As said we are reactive fans not proactive.

Oh dear god is there anything Oscar hasn't been blamed for, yet?
Absolute drivel the atmosphere has ALWAYS been 'quiet' at the Amex, Goldstone & Withdean, unless there has been something to react against, opposing fans, the ref, etc.
We do not support the team, if anything we hinder them by audibly moaning and groaning when a pass is misplaced.

What the hell has it got to do with Barber.
What would have happened if last night PB said 'we want to introduce safe standing'.
It's got feck all to do with Barber.

As and when the law changes the club may well review it's policy.
But in the meantime it's not spent £150m on a brand new state of the art stadium to then redesign it 3 years later.

Sorry to say it but one of the biggest problems is the attitude of many on here to new suggestions. Lots of really good ideas and songs are put forward but people find them 'embarrassing' or make them 'cringe'. Who gives a shit if the songs are not lyrically fantastic, most football songs aren't, it is all about creating a noise.

Palace sing some right old shit, try to make banners and create an atmosphere and do you know what? It works, it does not matter that the lyrics are a bit simple or even copied, they make a racket and that is what should happen at the Albion.

So, I would urge people to stop cringing or being embarrassed by certain songs, just get behind the team and make some noise.

Maybe we need to introduce a "shop-a-non-singer" text number.

If someone in the north stand isn't joining in passionately with the 24th rendition of "Albion, Albion" then text their seat number to 19011901 and they will be forcibly removed to the west lower and replaced with a suitably passionate fan from elsewhere.

This is a very good point. If someone were to have put the lyrics of the St Pauli 'we love you; we love you' song that were taken from the Whoopi Goldberg film about signing nuns, and suggested it on here as a song, they would've been laughed at. However, I think that we're possibly one of the few clubs in the country that hasn't taken this song and adapted it - I'm fairly sure I heard it sung by most oppo fans last year!

I sit in WSU near the middle. When everyone up there joins in it makes a great noise. So it shows that people up there are not afraid to sing along. The problem is we do not do it constantly enough myself included. I get the feeling that most people around me would love the atmosphere to be better. There is one chap, hats off to you sir, that has a good go at getting things started but it soon goes dead again. The WSU is probably the largest section if we could somehow get the message through to the fans up there and have a bit of co-ordination, and keep it going for 90mins it would be amazing. If there is a proportion of fans who don't want to join in that's OK; but I recon once we got it going there would be enough to make a great noise.

It's just I have no idea how to go about co-ordinating this sort of thing.

Make the north stand a Sit where you want stand. Maybe just try it for a game or two. Make it like an away game, and hopefully the atmosphere will follow suit. Everyone in there are season ticket holders anyway, so communicate that this is how its going to be.

Also time to bring back "that big bloody flag" or at least all chip in for a new one ?.

I agree with both Bloom and Barber it's up to the fans to improve atmosphere, if the club get involved the outcome will seem contrived and no one will get involved. The problem is we had loads of people on here a year or so ago making a real concerted effort to discuss and implement ways of improving atmosphere and they were shot down by large chunks of NSC, some passionate people were willing to give up their time and but were made to feel like twats in some cases, an oppertunity missed IMO.

Hopefully much like our 'friends' up the road we can start something small that evolves into a group of people that really adds something to the atmosphere, hopefully a bit more original mind. It's not particularly my cup of tea and there are many at Palace that hate the chants and displays but in a reletively short space of time they have got a whole stand of people creating an atmosphere as one, something that is definitely lacking in modern football.

The palace fans support a club who employ people that understand football and allow them to be football fans. We don't. Our club is after the more sedate fan but expects this to come with atmosphere.

You can have both and you can have both without safe standing areas. They just need to control their over zealous approach and allow the North to generate an atmosphere.

Is got nothing to do with type of songs or anything of the sort. It's to do with allowing an atmosphere to grow and not deliberately stifling it by ridiculous steward intervention.

A sensible approach would make everyone's experience more pleasant, particularly the stewards who currently have to follow such ridiculous instructions.

Don't go quoting league rules about it, other clubs don't find it a problem.

Sorry that doesn't wash with me, its just making excuses.

If 50, 100 or a few hundred people get on their feet together and more people follow suit then simply there's very little the stewards can do, thats why so many clubs get a way with it....you csnt kick that many people out.

Until there's a will for fans to get together and do something about it the atmsophere for all but a handful of games will be poor, people can blame sitting, the club, rupert murdoch, happy clapping fans or the fairy god mother all they like but the reality is its down to the fans!!
