Who thaught that Ol' Tone was being a tad optimistic at the end of last season when he said the aim was top 2 this year?

I know I did!

(I know that being 3 points clear in October doesnt mean finishing top 2 in May!)

My cautious side wants to say 3rd to 6th.

But doesn't anyone else get the feeling that our performances are only going to get better and better?...

Im still not convinced either, there is alot of time for it to all go wrong, but so far he is looking on course for Automatic Promotion!

Still not convinced either, but only one defeat in the league so far this season suggests we aren't a push over...the longer you keep up the sort of form the team has shown the more it becomes a habit, the real test will be when we hit a bumpy patch, how quickly they snap out of it.

Despite all the moaners, the table doesn't lie, you don't end up on top by mistake.

I asked this on the Albion Roar the week before last :

"If you were offered a playoff place NOW (instead of top 2) would you take it ?" - in other words, sacrifice a possible top 2 finish for a definate 3rd-6th place finish.

I said I'd take the Playoffs now, if it was offered. But as each week passes, I'm getting greedier.
(I don't think I got a STRAIGHT answer from Alan)

We have the best defense in the league so thats a massive plus, yes we're good enough for top two now and if we get a quality striker TOP SPOT:thumbsup:

No chance - 1 injury to either of the full backs or widemen or Murray and we're in a right hole.

That, and we don't score enough goals.

Oh, and if LuaLua goes back to Newcastle we might as well chuck it in and accept 10th.

I agree with you about scoring the goals.

I know its a team effort, but we dont have a player who has scored more than 4 goals this season.

We have a good defence, a decent midfield but not enough up front, more so if Lualua goes back in January.

We're heavily dependent on KLL, and that is the most worrying aspect. And much as everyone worries about our strikers, I'd be surprised if there were five or six teams with noticeably better strikers than we have.

Defence and midfield look good enough for the top two, less convinced about the forwards. Overall, we might be capable of a top two finish. Just. Certainly we should be in the top six at the end of the season anyhow, so I wouldn't take a play off place if offered it now.

I'll say it AGAIN.

Does no one else here agree that our performances will improve as the season goes? The players are still bedding in to how Gus wants them to play. We're TOP OF THE LEAGUE without playing THAT well by our standards. Surely that's a case for optimism?

Also....we always talk about the players, but we have the KEY thing we have that NO other team in League One has;

Gustavo Poyet. If we make the top two, it'll be down to him, no individual players.

There's so many teams in this league with bigger budgets, better managers and stronger teams. Im still going with 11th
Better managers?NO
Stronger squads?maybe southampton, peterborough, sheff.w,huddersfield, yes thats four teams who have plenty of goals in them and strengh in deph. These teams also leak a lot of goals and have been beaten many times this season already.

Quality striker is all we need:thumbsup:
