I have no problem with you holding the opinion that the IRA are a bunch of murdering scum, because - like the two proddy equivalents - that is exactly what they are.

However, the British state really ought to be better than them. And the fact that those poor blokes were wrongly locked up for 15 years is source of embarrassment and shame - to me, anyway. They weren't convicted on proper evidence, they were fitted up.

The usual rational reply of someone who has just had his comments totally shot down in flames.

I note you're not disputing that you were wrong in your implied assertion that the IRA had never appologised for any of the killings they carried out though

I take offence to your reasoning that the British Government is as bad as the IRA.

OK no one directly said It, It's just I can't stand all this crap about oh he was set up, poor Irish bloke.
Are you telling me you seriously believe the police just picked up a couple of innocent people, who had absolutely nothing to do with any terrorist organisation, fabricated a case against them and pushed through a conviction just so they could go home early?

And another thing, how many innocent people have been imprisoned over the years, would you rather do away with the judicial system and let anarchy reign.
Do you think you could do better?

Yep, spot on

1 is too many.

Personally, yes. I'm saying exactly that. Have you ever been in court and listened to the police lie about you and what you are supposed to have done in order to gain a conviction?
Some, not all by any means but some, of them do it as second nature and remember that in the case of the Birmingham 6 this was the West Midlands Serious Crime bunch, now revealed as being behind hundreds of false imprisonments over the years through falsifying evidence.

However in the case of the Guilford 4 and the Maguire 7 I accept that as much responsibilty lies with the incompetent forensic scientist who couldn't work out the difference between explosives and a pack of cards.

Sadly, it would appear so fella. Even if they weren't pure as the driven snow, you can't go locking up people because they're not very nice. That is a dangerous police state in action.

Be fair, no-one is suggesting that. Your question would be fairer if you asked whether anarchy or an unaccountable police state was better. Personally, I'd want neither.

To answer your first question - yes, that's exactly what happened - a fact that has now been acknowledged. There are, sadly, quite a few shysters and scum humans in our 'Marvelous and Magnificent' Police Force.

Your second question, of course nobody wants to do away with the judiciary - I'm pleased we have a system that recognises and is prepared to correct its mistakes, something we couldn't do with a Death Penalty.
