Annoying that he didn't book their player for clattering Gilmour. Positionally he seemed to be a bit too close to the action at times.

But nothing as obviously shit as the ref at Man City awarding a free kick for a foul on Doku which occurred after he'd run the ball out of play and knocked it back in again.

Referee was very poor in his posistining.

Top level referees in England run a diagonal, where you should mostly always have yourself and an Assistant between the ball (shown by the red line i've drawn). UEFA have tried to move away from this, to a rectangle, which is why his positioning was odd.

What Mr Frankowski was doing (orange lines) meant he got himself stuck in between the two banks Ajax had set up, he often got his back / side to the play, meaning he was far too close. You should be 10-15 yards away, where he was 5-10 and had poor angels on a lot of stuff. He also didn't venture into either box, which top level officials have to do (you get marked down if you don't).

It's basic stuff really, but after the ball hit him (when he was stood in the way), he should've adapted. That wouldn't have happened if he'd been five yards wider, and running the proper diagonals.

Always was told they were supposed to run in an S - that was a long time ago though
