I just hope we retain some dignity and humility if we do finally get to the top table. We have been loveable losers for 30 years and it will be sad if we lose our character.

How is Albion's financial state? Perilous I believe...

Losing £2.5m or so each year, on a turnover of not much more.

The directors and shareholders are bailing the club out year-on-year. Falmer ought to put a stop to all that. Ought to.

Haven't been looking forward to this for some reason - but now I am and you've got to hope for an upset. I do recall the game at the Goldstone - who could forget if they were there (Jimmy Case goal in front of the North Stand).

Reminds me of New Order's "Blue Monday" single. It was the best selling 12 inch of all time and their biggest hit, but every copy sold lost money because of the expensive sleeve.

I suppose you are dependant on player sales and/or an away cup tie or two per season to get close to break even then.

I feel bad now. I guess if the tie had been at our ground you would have made a few quid. Off the top of my head we may have got 30,000 but we tend to do reduced price admissions (£15-20) for these game. You would have got 45% so that would have been maybe £250K. A drop in the ocean.

Assuming an average of £20 a ticket for tonight x 9,000 = £180K

If the costs for the match are that then DK will give up

Insiders comments are based on annual operating costs of the club in total which are not sustainable at Withdean. Tonight they will make an operating profit.

Of that estimated £180,000, first we have to take off VAT (£26,800), then we have to pay Man City's travel expenses and (to a certain point), hotel expenses. Then we have to take out all the operating costs (about 35%-40% of the gate), and from that we split the money with Man City and the Football League (45/45/10) I think.

And that doesn't account for the players' wages, electricity bills, medical staff, staff wages etc.

Absolutely correct but it does contribute to those fixed overheads with a pay day like this and if we could fill Withers every week it would help reduce the overall losses

I don't trust that answer, because I think Insider (or his accountant) are taking into account all the fised costs and dividing the total costs by the number of games usually played in a season.

What is relevant tonight is the marginal cost, ie the costs wouldn't be incurring otherwise. I bet that tells a different story.

1) Our league home record this season. 4 games played, one goal scored, six conceded, two points. Our last home game was against a team who had not kept a clean sheet for nineteen games and played with nine men for an hour. We lost 1-0. The home game before that we lost 4-1.

2) You seem to be in form at the moment.

3)We don't win many cup games. The only time that we make the third round of a cup competition is when we enter in third round.

4) The last time we beat someone from a higher division was 1994(I think).
