Tonight - how critical is this match?

If we get anything from tonight after selling two of our more influential players in the past 7 days, morale could soar. If we lose and look totally out of our depth, I reckon Rotherham could end up catching us.

What do you think? Overreacting?

yep - overreacting. We do need points, and they would be a great fillip, but the next game is more important.

McGhee will lift them tonight and for the rest of the season. He is a top manager.

If we lose we are RELEGATED.

OH PLEASE.

We are bigger than Cullip and Currie. We can survive, a season isn't deceided in one match. Was it Micky Adams who said "It's a marathon, not a sprint."

.. well, he also said "failing to prepare is preparing to fail.." but thats another story..

Have to agree, Gutted Cullip has gone but this club was about before I was born and Im sure it will be when Im dead!

I appreciate what Danny has done and will now be a legend for us, but please for once.... stop moaning and get behind the team!

I think tonight will be a big test of the players' character, especially if we go a goal down. Hopefully a kind of us-again-the-world mentality will keep their morale high.

Oh come on, lets be honest with ourselves here. Cullip is great and we'll miss him but rather this season then any of the past 4 as we've actually got decent cover for him now with our young lads holding their own. And while losing Currie's creativity is an obvious blow it just means the rest of the boys have to work harder.
We've been passing the ball better than we have for years this season and all it takes is the determination to keep grinding out results which will see us survive.
We have fighting spirit and the experience to cope here.

The young players can only get better whereas Cullip and Currie are reaching their twilight years. Lets look to the future and not the past.

3 points tonight and we'll take the roof off Withdean!!

(Looks like somebody's beaten us to it actually...)

I saw Wardy leave this club abnd the big thing was there was no gossip mill like NSC.

My bloddy club are a damned sight bigger and more important than one f***ing player. I loved Danny.

But he has gone. We have had from him as much as he gave us.

That is all you can hope for in life.

Now start drinking or I am going to be the only pissed twit at Withdeato night.

Big test. I saw Stoke a couple of weeks ago at Watford, they'd been on a terrible run and Watford had just thumped Pompey in the LCup - but they outplayed them, Noel-Williams and Akinbiyi were a real handful and Brammer and Russell hoovered everything up in midfield. A win would be a great result after the week we've had, and central defence will be the key.

It would obviously be a good game to win because it means that those playing tomorrow will see the gap grow to us (and I'm sure they look at us as the team they are most likely to catch).

However, it's not a do-or-die type of game. We're not 5 points behind the safety zone, we're 5 points to the good.

Gillingham, IMO, is more important. although if we win tonight and they lose tomorrow, the less so.

What would be good would be to see the team play well and work for each other.

Looking at the table it seems that we have scored the same number of goals this season - 17. But they have conceded 17 and we have conceded 31!

Stoke's away record: Won 2, Drawn 6, Lost 3, For 6, Against 10.

Personally I'd take a draw but as they have a few defenders out ...fingers crossed!

If we win and Forest and co lose tomorrow we'll be 8 points clear. That will be good. :D

Sad as I am, I feel that the loss of Danny may in fact have a good effect on the atmosphere as we fans will feel the need to lead the lads on from the stands now that our talismanic and inspirational skipper is gone.

I'm not the most vocal of fans normally, but I intend to roar the boys on tonight and if I can do it then so can anyone.

Give those still with us our full backing (especially McCammon - he must be considered innocent until proven guilty)!

I think a win tonight is important for morale for both the fans and the players.
I am not a Charlie Oatway fan but I do admire his qualities as a players player and think he will whip up the motivation needed.
I think Danny was a tremndous skipper and will be missed but there were occasisons when I think he had an adverse effect on some of his colleagues. He was not opposed to shouting at others when at times he was himself at fault. I have seen Mayo appear to melt like ice cream from one of Danny's verbals and I think him and Kuipers and Butters have nearly come to blows on the pitch.
I will be interested tonight to see if Butters has the ability to hold the back line togehter because I think with his experience this will be vital with the youngsters.
