Even if he did (and I'm not sure that he showed more commitment and desire than, say, Crofts or Elliott Bennett), so what? Commitment and desire without the skillset or ability to concentrate for 90 minutes is useless. He is one of the reasons we keep on losing.

That's nonsense, Elphick is our best player alongside Bennett. Crofts may execute a few sliding tackles but doesn't offer anything going forward, the poor coaching set up is the reason why we are losing not Elphick.
