I'm sure this importing tomatoes from China, processing them in Italy and passing them off as Italian had been going on for years

Seems it has Pulp fiction: Asda's 'made in Italy' tomato puree hails from China for 11 years at least.

Seems like just a Tesco thing, can't get it up here in Epsom either but Aldi had loads, maybe Tesco have pissed off another supplier

Imagine my utter DELIGHT to spy tomato puree on sale in there. Not only that, it was "Ready, Steady Cook" branded tomato puree. It must be very, very good tomato puree. Probably crafted with love by Ainsley Harriott himself.

Looks like it was revived for a bit with Rylan hosting, some time after the pandemic. Doesn't look like it's still going. As others have said: check the Best Before dates on your puree

UK supermarkets buying their own brand tommyP from Italian company Petti who use cheap Chinese tomatoes picked by Uyghr slave labour. They've been caught out and presumably rushed to remove it from their shelves before the bad publicity hits.
