Is his philosophy when he refs a top six Premier League game “If in doubt give the decision to the big team”
So the answer given by Kevin Friend was that Liverpool dominated possession so it was inevitable that Brighton would concede more fouls.

Hard to argue with that but it doesn’t really explain why when they tackled us they only gave away 5 fouls all game and why virtually all coming togethers for 50/50 balls where a foul was given, they were given against Brighton. There was also a fair amount of play acting that resulted in a foul awarded to Liverpool. Has to be said that he did get most of the big decisions right though.

Nailed on imho

One other question..and not necessarily to him is over the performance of the assistants in that game ..and in general ..they seem to escape a lot of the criticism that is aimed at the ref

Maybe they dominated possession because he kept giving them free kicks....

On a more serious note, his answer doesn't address the posed question. Nobody asked why Liverpool got more free kicks. The question was actually why every decision that could have gone either way went to Liverpool. The fact that he gave an answer that essentially says 'Because Liverpool are better than Brighton' speaks volumes about his unconscious bias.
