Always thought Bennett was a bit shifty-looking. Explains a lot.

Not quite sure why this is a front-page splash. I remember in the 70s players taking a booking and getting suspended so they didn't miss big Cup games and the like. And if a few foreigners want Christmas off - well, you wouldn't want them in the trenches with you, but it's hardly Watergate.

Steve Foster tried to get himself booked so he could appear at Wembley in the FA Cup final, but the referee refused to book him. I'm sure this has happened since football went pro!

Christ do they still print the news of the world? If so what for exactly? Is it so we can all be 'outraged' at their 'scandals'.?

What a waste of time and effort that rag was (or possibly still is).

You say that but have you ever read the Sunday Sport ?

Premiership players deliberately getting booked so they can go on holiday and stuff like that.
Also Steve Bennett is a Palace fan :tosser:

I liked the bit where it said "As Bennett spoke, Howard Webb and [can't remember the name of the other ref] could be heard in the background singing the Liverpool anthem You'll Never Walk Alone".

That'll be nice for Howard to recall next time he referees a game at Old Trafford :lolol:

Anyone else remember Bennett sending one of our players off (Barrett?) at Pompey a few years ago? The Portsmouth player involved in the incident (Matt taylor) should have been sent-off too. Finding out that Bennett is a Palace fan has finally helped me to understand a quite appalling decision.

He is a robot - I've no idea how he has become a FIFA referee.

The sunday sport is a great read. All their stories are obviously made up, it's just a daily version of Viz. The difference with the NOTW is that they pretend their made up stories are true

The only problem with the Sport is that a lot of it's customers actually believe what they read !

No, he'd already been booked, he tried unsuccessfully to get himself red carded.

That is right because we were virtually sure of relegation and he would have missed a league game instead of the cup final. I was told that the club even tried to get Norwich to put their game back but the FL refused to allow it

Foster played in the Final replay , but being honest about it , we were totally knackered after giving it all in the Final.
