I just told some of the people in my office about the snow in Haywards Heath and they said "ah but it has to get over the Downs before it can get here". I don't really understand why snow in the sky will struggle to get "over" the Downs but I hope they are right.

I believe snow clouds are low level clouds, if they are low enough then they'll get blocked by the Downs. I think.

Because the Downs cause all of the atmosphere to rise, leading to isostatic cooling. As the clouds cool, the moisture condenses and the snow falls on the Downs. Brighton is therefore in a slight rainshadow (snowshadow) when the weather is coming from the north.

As has been said many times, it's the surrounding areas that we now have to worry about.

It's just about to hit Brighton, most will miss but slippery withdean will surely mean game over unless a lot of us get down there with salt.

Takes all salts doesn't it ?

To add to the drama ... the roads around Creepy are choc-a-block - absolute grid lock - my collegue stepped out to M&S to do some shopping about 2 hours ago and has spent the last 45 minutes trying to get back from Town ... a grand distance of about a mile!
