To the 'Human Rights' camp on here, please explain this to me.

Of course he should of recieved a longer sentence in most peoples eyes, including mine, but this sort of sentence has occurred in the UK more than once for a similer offence. I would hate to think this thread is due to the convicted mans religion.
The length of the sentence is far more likely to be because the judge was complying with the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act 2003 and the particular circumstances of the case.

The convicted man's religion isn't even reported in the media coverage of the case. All we know is that his background seems to be that his family were opponents of the regime in Iran. In terms of religion, that could mean anything.

The reason I say it, is that ive seen this sort of thread started on some less savoury right wing sites... and they tend to be of a similer vein, and mostly its regarding religion, but they do tar anybody from an Islamic state as Islamic, which is why I said it..

It costs about £1000 a day per prisoner to keep them locked up
That's slightly misleading as many costs are fixed even if no prisoner is locked up (building costs etc.) that are incurred no matter how many prisoners. You don't save £1000 a day if you free a prisoner.

For example, mortgage, bills, insurance etc. means it costs a few hundred pounds a week to live where I do. If I leave the house for a month, it's still costs me money, a little less on heating/electric maybe but the mortgage/insurance/base bills are still there.

Maybe a better representation of cost is how much an empty cell costs VS how much a cell with a prisoner costs. I will be a lot less than £1000 a day!

Aren't all of our prisons full to overflowing then?

There are two punishments here... minimum ten years and then deportation... something that so shocked and frightened him that it was sued as very limited mitigation. Nothing replaces a life but as other murderers get only a minimum of ten years his punishment is certainly worse. Some drunk drivers who plough though bus stops killing kids get away with four years!!

They got in to our country because Labour opened the door to immigration. Labour failed to talk about the problem or sort the issue out.
We got some skilled workers but we also allowed thousands of illegals through the back door.

Sorry, you've confused me here. Did Labour let them in, or are they illegal?

NB - I am not a Labour voter/supporter!

I believe he is in fact a political refugee and therefore part of a policy that stretches way before Labour politics
