To lead League 1, what a team has to do

Our best and only hope is that the goals are starting to ping in from all over the field. Bennett will be our top scorer. If we can nick a play-off place then its all up for grabs. Though nicking a play-off place looks a tall order at the moment. A slightly improved mid-table place looks by far the likelier outcome. IMHO, like.

If you have those expectations I don't think you can be easily disappointed this year. After Christmas I imagine there's going to be increased euphoria as the Amex takes more shape and looks closer to completion...which will have an effect on everybody. IF we are upper-mid-table at that point, the odds on a final rush into the playoffs should be excellent.

Won't it be a bit scary though, if we get a playoff final at the end of the season with all our expectations and hopes on the line!
You just have to suspect that WILL be the scenario :albion1::bounce:

well done.

really.

it took you until your final few lines to have your normal, bigotted, very dull, and in the majority's opinion unjustified, dig.

how long before you relocate to crawley?

...................................................................please

This was a bit harsh of a well-thought-out post wasn't it? Do you two have history or something??

'Badger' looks to have been fair and honest there (in my opinion anyway).

Let's not have this thread denigrate into biting at each other please, it's getting a bit old now, this week particularly.

Even without last week's signings I thought we were good candidates for the top 6. The big difference this season is that we have strength all round the team - and we now have strength on the bench too. I would agree that the weakest position is GK, but that's only when compared with the strength in other areas.

I expect us to do very well provided we can keep our main players relatively injury and suspension free.

I agree with TCB.

With regards to the goalkeeping, Brezovan was injured for a long time before he came to us last season and I was always convinced that with a decent pre-season he would be very good. Unfortunately he hasn't got the pre-season he probably needed. nevertheless I think he is a good keeper at this level, who will continue to improve throughout the season (as he did towards the end of last season).

The same goes for Ankergran, I think he is a good keeper who hasn't played in too long a time and who desparately needed a decent pre-season. He'll improve as the season continues and he is worked on the training ground.

TCB is right to highlight that between the goalposts is a worry. I agree, although I think the keepers are very good, they haven't had a pre-season. They will get better as the season progresses.

All the results this weekend seem to indicate that it's going to be a close scrap. Failing to beat Rochdale at home looks less of a disaster in light of the Southampton result. I think all of the teams in the bottom four won this weekend, most of the ones at the top lost. Many in the middle drew.

It's going to be tight - and a great opportunity for the Albion.

I also agree with almost every word TCB has said. In particular, I'm finding it annoying to see Charlton in many people's list of this year's big-hitters. Charlton are no marks with no money and a very average squad.

I honestly think Brentford will have a great season (helped by their usual 4-0 home rout of the Albion, no doubt) and if Bournemouth can keep hold of Pitman, I reckon they might flirt with the play-offs too.

did I miss something or has Pitman gone to Bristol City?

I agree this season could be surprisingly open and I'm certain we will be in the mix with Wednesday, Peterboro and Huddersfield as the stand out sides and Southampton with a late run once their management situation is sorted.

Unlike TCB I believe we have two good keepers for this level - the best cover in depth for many a long year

I didn't realise Bristol City had bought Pitman! Oh well, I still think Bournemouth will be OK.

As for the keeper situation, I think it speaks volumes that Leeds decided Ankergren wasn't up to the job in the Championship. We'll see, though.

Fair enough, you make some valid points. I'm not writing all of them off, I'm sure at least one will come good. But I'll stick to what I have suggested which is that I'm not convinced the league is as strong as is suggested and lets see at the end of the season....or maybe sooner.

Am I allowed to change my opinion from 'I'm not convinced the league is as strong as people are suggesting' to 'it's a stroll in the park'?

We are top of the league!
