Take a look at that graph again.

Our season so far can be divided into 3 distinct phases. The difference in the gradient of the blue line is quite noticeable:

1) Matchweeks 1-5 - Out of the blocks fast, but it was an easy start. 'We are now beating the teams around us' - Warren Aspinall.
2) Matchweeks 6-16 - Draw fest. Deja vu. Can't finish.
3) Matchweeks 17-date - We seem to be converting one or two more chances. We compete in every game...

The question is why? What are we now getting right that we didn't always get right earlier on?

So, next 3 games are free hits.....think we can get some points from them so hopefully all still coming along nicely

Not quite two of them are games that haven’t been arranged yet. They need moving.

So, we need four points from the next nine games to stay on track!

We often seem to play better against more expansive footballing sides and look lost against the relegation fodder

Is there a pattern. In terms of "teams around us". We beat Burnley and Watford and probably should have beaten Newcastle.
Norwich wasn't great tbf - but we've beaten Brentford twice.

On other hand we've beaten Leicester and Everton and unbeaten v Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

I haven't been paying attention- why is there a break with no European international games?

After years of complaints it was decided three (?) seasons ago that every club would have a small winter break. In GP year 1 the club went on a short visit to Spain during this break I think.

There are international games for pretty much every other federation, plus the on going AFCON. We'd also be without Alzate and Mac Allister if games were continuing over the international break as they've been called up by Colombia and Argentina. The PL want to treat this as a mini break for clubs (and European players) as there wasn't the desired split-week winter break this season. Although unlike previous seasons when no friendlies were permitted we've got Newcastle looking at playing a friendly in Saudi Arabia this time round.
