What a load of old cock. He’s proved time and time again that he’s a tactical retard. Koeman changed things at half time and brought the Dutch back into the game with no reaction from Southgate . The subs weren’t a tactical masterstoke, just like for like replacements. Pretty much the same as against Croatia in 2018 and Italy in 2021. This time we got lucky and beat a half decent side in a tournament for a change.

The most negativity I’ve seen on NSC this past 24 hours is from you lot, and with posts like these.

I’ve not seen anyone be “disappointed” at the prospect of winning, “hated” these moments “as much as they could”, or be entirely negative about GS.

You’d find most people have at some level or another been on his back, and have also given him credit where and when due.

I think it’s more likely that you lot are a bunch of drama queens.

Criticism of this flaccid manager and his jaded looking team has created a unity that has dragged us through the kindest half of a draw in history to the point where we beat a side that came third in their group in the semi finals.

With few goals, a bang average defence and a sense of indignation within the squad we have somehow fluked our way to a final. I hope we win, but I fear a humbling defeat against the first genuine football powerhouse we will have faced.

Often when we go out, like in the final against Italy, it's been due to Southgate's negative tactics and hesitancy to make changes. Yesterday was great but I don't think it proves his critics wrong because let's face it the Netherlands are a good but not a great team and finished 3rd in their group. Let's see how we get on against Spain who have been playing some incredible football and have looked like a top team.

I think player for player we have a better team than them, but they seem to be more cohesive, so our success in the game is likely to come down to Southgate and how he sets us up.

Not so sure about that bit, I wonder if we feel like that as we see Foden et al more regularly. Based on what I’ve seen Williams looks better than Foden (in this tournament).

The first half is how England should play, but they won’t dominate the ball vs Spain, and it’s whether Southgate can counter a better opponent.

As for Southgate, you can't argue with his record but the football's been a pretty hard watch in this tourny. I recall when Sven was on his last legs and everyone wanted him out, I was arguing with a lot of people - my argument was "he's got us to the quarter-finals of every tournament we've entered, which is historically a very good record for an England manager".

I think I was proven correct there by the next few tournaments. Between Sven's departure and Southgate's appointment, most England fans would have gone nuts for a quarter-final appearance. Even qualifying for tournaments was a struggle sometimes, and when we did qualify, we ended up finishing below Costa Rica in our group or getting knocked out by the likes of Iceland.

But now Southgate's record craps all over Eriksson's. I don't enjoy his style of play much (though I enjoyed it much more at the last Euros), but I think England fans should remember that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

I Just want more entertainment. Last night we got It. We were hugely lucky with the penalty but overall we had the better players and we made it count. The better team won and credit where credit is due, Southgate made subs that changed the game it would be churlish to not recognise that.

i like Southgate as a person, he has de- toxified the England brand and given us a team we can all get behind. Gareth deserves recognition and thanks for that. Imho I just do not rate him as a coach, certainly not a coach of good players, we’ve made hard work of this tournament thus far and until last night we have played poorly. I believe it is possible to acknowledge the dreck in the other games and enjoy last night’s improvement.
