Criticised for sticking with Pickford - proved em wrong
Criticised for picking shaw - proved em wrong
criticised for his subs, brings on Palmer and watkins who assist and score the winner. previously Brought TAA and Toney on to take pens who both converted (v SwizzZZ)
He stuck with Kane and Bellingham despite all the 'experts' saying they should be subbed who both went on to score (v Slovakia)
won 3 knockout matches from losing positions
2 Euro Finals
1 WC Semi
Time to hold up your hands and admit you were wrong about Southgate

Gareth Southgate is an incredibly lucky manager. Enough said.

On paper he will go down as a very successful manager. He’s won ugly time and time again. First time he’s made subs at the right time today. Could be argued they should have been earlier.

Everyone needs luck. Like it or not if someone said we’d make a quater final a semi and two finals under him you’d have taken it.

Still tactically weak and he would never cut it as a manager in the prem.

Great result tonight, good tactics by GS, good post papering over the past 4+ years, but

Pretty much this. Serverd up many games of utter dross but got it right tonight. Had some incredible luck (that wasn't a penalty) but in the end, England in another European Final. I'm not complaining but also not getting giddy over one decent game.

Absolutely no dog in the game here as have no strong opinion on Southgate, and am not really an England supporter ( tho not a typical celtic ABE either). But England did underperform early in the tournament and there is no problem saying that - just for an accurate record!

Strange way to celebrate?
I disagree, far too many people celebrating tonight who OTT berated the team in previous rounds. Criticism is fine. Abuse not. So it’s good to shove it back in the latters faces. You know, the same types who swap clubs as mature adults depending on who’s likely to win the PL. And typically last went to a match in the 90s, but would offer their opinion to Pep as to how he should organise his teams…

He still should have picked Dunk three years ago instead of that donkey Maguire

He's absolute garbage. I can't believe you still can't see that? We were decent today for the first time in a long time. Not because or his tactical masterstroke but because how good our players our.
wrong, simple example / brought on Palmer who assisted, brought on Watkins who scored the winner. They changed the game / Masterstroke

Fine margins. compare and contrast

Sven Gormless Idiot gambles on an unfit Owen who gets injured after 5 mins, brings on Jamie Carragher (?) to take a penalty, who missed (natch), picked Theo Walcott who never played a minute of football for his club, and never played him. Picked an unfit Rooney who wasn't match fit and gets himself sent off. That is garbage managment

The only thing garbage is your football knowledge

Tonight was a much better performance and a combination of a very generous penalty with clinical clutch finishing was the difference.

But England have played well once in six games, so forgive me for being slightly reticent about gushing praise for now.

Whilst reaching a Final from a kinder side of the draw is great, let's not forget the absolute dreck that was served up previously.

As posted on the match thread, if they can beat the standout team in the tournament, then they''ll be worthy winners.

But with 4-5 poor performances out of 6, it's more likely that tonight's showing was the outlier rather than the norm.

Relying on Spain to have an off-day isn't going to be enough. They'll still need both luck and a better performance than tonight.

If we win it, I will accept that I was right. I thought he may win something. Or maybe not.

A little early for gloating I would have thought

Why so aggressive?

Just because Sven was a bit of a gadfly doesn't mean Southgate is great. False equivalence.
